Ooh, another good shônen-ai manga <3 Don't mind if I do~
And of course, thank you for the scanlators. I found this thanks to that update so it's really a double thanks.
Ah yes, more! I'm glad we got that mini epilogue, the ending left me wanting a lot more. It's really nice to see how Arata's expressions have softened over time.
Best Shounen Ai I've read in a while. So cute, so many squees
Hase's such tease ;A;
That was so cute I couldn't stand not smiling all the way through... Hase is my fave <3
this was so cute (>0<)~<3
definitely just bl lol its only sweet fluffy sfw romance. theres no sex scenes so it aint yaoi xD those who think this counts as a yaoi clearly havent read much yaoi manga lolz
Oh gosh.... This was just too adorable! Usually I avoid shonen-ai cuz I hate how one side seems to completely dominate over the other in a lot of them but both characters here were really sweet and I loved how they portrayed Arata getting used to the relationship. It really hit the feels :'(
It helps that the art and the panel arrangement is so nice to look at too.
Also, Shoutarou is sooooo adorably funny! He really is like a big dog
Personally I don't really think this is worth arguing over, at this point it all depends on our personal interpretation of the term.
I, for example, remember hearing from a translator that yaoi is the equivalent to slash in male/male ships in manga series for the western fandoms, meaning that it usually refers to non-canon ships from fictional series(ex. narugaa from naruto).
In that case then yes this series is certainly not yaoi.
Most of the time though I see that it's either used only for r-18 rated bl manga or doujinshi, or just manga and doujinshi with bl in general(r-18 or not).
I do not know how accurate all of these are but it goes to show that really this term is used in a variety of ways and few people seem to know what it actually is and have their own interpretations (I myself am not sure and this is why I try and avoid using this term)
Batoto seems to be using the yaoi and shounen ai system, so here in particular it's probably best to look at how it's tagged and it seems that this is the way to tell is there's smut.
It's different in some places though, the only advice I can give is for people is to look if there is a r-18, r-15 or simply sexual content warning somewhere. (doujinshi at least all seem to have these r-18 labels)
And yes the Japanese fandom seems to mostly use the term bl(boys love) and ratings(r-13, r-15, r-18)
Also, thanks to Baniita who provided information on the topic.
Verlaine, check your privelege.
Don't criticize others for their definition of 'yaoi' and 'shounen-ai' when you're off-base yourself.
Yaoi is the name for pretty much the plot-without-point stuff in unofficial fan doujinshi, when used entirely accurately, since that's what "no climax, no fall, no meaning" refers to.
But the term is outdated, really. I don't hear anyone say it in the Japanese fandom.
Strangely, shounen-ai and Boy's Love refer to different things, even though they mean the same thing when translated. Shounen-ai refers to the older stuff like Thomas no Shinzou, and often featured "pure" (kinda asexual) homosexual romances between girly boys. They tend to be melodramatic and "tragic".
This series is a published work in tankoubon and iirc, a BL magazine. Thus it is BL.
Shounen-ai, fake, june, etc, are obsolete terms.
The most goddamn adorable thing I've ever read. *said that last week about Clear's route in DMMD*
nO BUT REALLY UGH THIS IS--It's really well written, the panel layouts and the pacing and the tone are a work of art. There's a little bit of bitterness amongst all the fluff. The art is a bit sketchy, but more charming that way. The characters are interesting, and Sakaki is not like most uke even though he's a tsundere (how should I say... he's offbeat. He's detatched to most people, he's a coward, but very likeable). Plus, he initiates things too, and the balance of dominance is lovely.
The extra story reminded me a lot of Shizaya, which is one of my otps, so it had a bigger impact on me, but it was very interesting to read on its own, too!
The main couple are adorable, oh god. I usually hate the childhood-friends-turned-lovers trope, but this was very well executed.
The interaction between the two characters in the extra was really interesting, too. Nase is a little shet, but he's terribly charming. His grin when he saw through megane-kun had me gyrating back and forth in silent squees like an idiot. (haha)
A nice read. The art really is something special. It gives an ethereal and dreamy vibe to the manga.
So
Miyamoto smile too bright XD
and it's definately not yaoi. Trust me, I read yaoi all the time, this is only shounen ai. A great shounen ai.
and it's not yaoi ... T_T
