Description: | The typical Kochikame plot involves Ryo-san coming up with a money-making scheme by inventing a new gadget or capitalizing on a fad, achieving great success, calling on Nakagawa's help as things turn sour, and finally losing it all as the fad runs out of steam or out of control. While the plots are gag-driven, much of the humor comes from the juxtaposition of mundane characters with the bizarrely incongruous (Nakagawa's wealth, Maria's appeal, everyone's lack of actual police work), most of which is never explained or rationalized in the slightest. |

In any case, I suppose you guys will get there eventually, especially with the super quick pace that you're putting out chapters.
And you guys aren't just speedy, but the quality of your translation & editing is really good, too! Thanks again for all you're doing.
I found several chapters with him playing video games, but I wouldn't say he "discovers" video games in those chapters. So unless I have a specific volume number to look in, then I can't help you there, sorry.
If that chapter is somewhere after Volume 10 though, I'm sure we will reach it.... eventually.
Also of note, the cover of Volume 16 features Ryotsu playing pachinko.
Cool.
Like I said, we start releasing things in order from Vol 10 and on, and don't worry, there are no major characters that was introduced during the 7 volumes we skipped, besides from the chapter with the dog, which we did already.
Problem is, we don't know where it is.
It's extremely unlikely we'll get anywhere close to finishing. It'd take 20 years at best. We'll do as much as we can, so don't get your hopes up for a completed Kochikame, folks.
NOPE!!!
The first 9 volumes are boring, so we'll just start from Vol 10 and finish the rest 190 volumes, SLOWLY.
So, do you guys plan to finish all the 200 volumes?
Whoa! A new chapter! Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the new chapter! @Cyan Steam @Aranea
So many SHOUNEN JUMP series ended this year. AssClassroom, Bleach, Nisekoi, Toriko... and now this legendary long-running series. Oh man!
Late reply,
It should be all current Jump artists.
Can anyone give explanation from page 25 who is drawing which Ryo-san in the spread page? I can only recognize Oda, Horikoshi, and Shimabukuro's drawing.
40 years without missing an issue. now that's what you call work ethic. dang.
Nice final chapter. Too bad that, considering we don't have a lot of chapters translated, we hardly know any of these characters.
And so a legend comes to a close...
With this, there will be only one continuously running manga from older generations left in WSJ: One Piece (yes, there's HxH too but that's a different matter).
Gintama and Toriko are the next oldest ones after OP, but sadly both will be ending soon as well. Saiki, Haikyuu!!, and Shokugeki are the next oldest ones all at 4 years old. The rest of the manga in Jump are much younger. It's incredible to think that just 5 years ago, Jump was almost a completely different magazine...
Farewell to a legend and thanks for 40 years worth of enjoyment, Akimoto-sensei.
This is... sad, something really grand has ended. Last few years marked end of great (and less great but still popular) manga which went for years. What are we left with? Berserk? Golgo 13? Hajime no Ippo? And there are few series which started later in 90's.
But that moment when i realize that One Piece sold almost 3 times more volumes...

Some interesting tidbits now:
* Kochikame has been around since Gerald Ford was president, before Nintendo worked on video game consoles, and before John Cena was born.
* Kochikame has seen both the beginnings and endings of Fist of the North Star, Kinnikuman, Dragonball, Saint Seiya, Slam Dunk, the first seven parts of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, and Bleach. It is also the only manga besides Slam Dunk to have a cover page commemorating its ending (for example, Ruroni Kenshin didn't get one because it ended the same week Naruto debuted).
* Nearly every Jump author you can think of has done some tribute to Kochikame in some form during one of its anniversaries. The 30th anniversary had Ryotsu making cameos in every other chapter in the magazine (one of the marines in Enies Lobby, a zombie in Gintama, etc).
* At 200 volumes, Kochikame is one of the longest-running weekly manga of all time (some manga has run for longer, but with not nearly as many chapters). And Osamu Akimoto has never missed a single week of publication.
* It's fucking older than Garfield. GARFIELD.
* After this year, it's quite possible that Haikyuu will be the third longest running manga published in WSJ.
* Despite its longevity, this 1000+ chapter series only has 24 chapters translated.
We really need a translator for this series. Know anyone who can help? Please contact us at [email protected]
It's not like most anyone our age in Japan has read the whole thing. Sounds good to me.
