Description: Based on an award winning light novel:

One day, I – a high schooler – found a paperback in the hospital. The “Disease Coexistence Journal” was its title. It was a diary that my classmate, Sakura Yamauchi, had written in secret. Inside, it was written that due to her pancreatic disease, her days were numbered. And thus, I coincidentally went from Just-a-Classmate to a Secret-Knowing-Classmate. It was as if I were being drawn to her, who was my polar opposite. However, the world presented the girl that was already suffering from an illness with an equally cruel reality…

Between this and Three Days of Happiness you can easily get your dosage of existential dread.

As it turns out my dosage increased to 14 pills/day (9xcarbimazole, 3x propranolol, 2x metronide) because my graves disease recovery is going too slowly. Two of the pills are just antibiotics until I can recover from this weird contamination that I got from my brother

When the doctor read my records with having 1.6 milimoles/L of potassium he said that I should've died. His wife apparently died to low potassium and she had higher levels than I had.

Just started reading this and, god, I feel like shit.

Batoto is your family, so don't you feel bad!

I really hate these silly bullying just because a rumor started that he got close with a popular girl, whats it to them? and it seems like it was by that idiotic class rep at the end

FMC went a bit far there, tbh i dont really blame the MC for getting angry. She looked like she was testing the waters by asking him about his feelings and got hurt by his answer? Could be something else entirely though

You dont have to wait 9 months there is a case where the baby was born in the 21st week. The earlier the birth the greater the risk for the baby but its possible. Thing is she being heavily medicated and still being young would make a pregnancy impossible plus the burden of her illness would probably kill her.

I mean, a surrogate is an option. But that's usually pretty expensive. And even then, you have to ask if the baby will be sickly too, so you would need some genetic screening as well, lest the child comes down with something even more debilitating and he has to raise him/her on his own. Hey, there's an idea for the sequel!

So what would you guys do if.you're in mc's situation? For me, I guess I'll marry her. We probably cant have a baby since 9 mos is too long

Ask her that wheter she want to donate her organ when she died, find the receiver ,  tell her that rather spend the rest of her life with me / MC, she should spend it together with the receiver and dont bother me / mc anymore.

I've scrolled past this manga 6 times and misread it as "I want to eat your princess" every time.

I just hope she's honest with her reasons for this.

Because if in the end it's something shitty like "at least, I changed your life before I died", "I did something meaningful before dying" or "I hope you can find happiness" ... fk.

well hopefully she saw or knows something about the MC that made her approach him

felt like MC was set up the way he found her book but i could be wrong

Used properly, opening with a downer ending can do a lot of things. It's true that it tempers the shock of the tragedy, but in the right hands it can lend a melancholy tone to the storytelling, or provide a different sort of suspense as events unfold, that sort of thing.

Or, for instance, if you visit the core of a tragedy twice, once at the beginning and once at the end, the second time can be part of catharsis (which would be quite difficult otherwise).

Spoiler

...Mind, I think you're all crazy for wanting really intense tragedies. Just like I never understand people who like spicy food for the fact that it's spicy, really. But I digress.

Hmmm. Two that have stuck with me are The Plague Dogs and Leafie, a Hen Into the Wild. Neither are for the faint of heart. The first one is essentially dogs trying to escape a lifetime of abuse, and Leafie had an ending so sad that even the antagonist was crying.

I just hope she's honest with her reasons for this.

my daily diet of pills:
6x carbimazole, 3x 5-20mg of propranalol.

Why? Graves disease. My life span may have shortened, and being asian, it has a bonus effect of hypermetabolism which can cause average body temperatues up to 42 deg C, and excessive potassium consumption resulting in paralysis.

I actually started reading this story well before I even had paralysis symptoms though

…Which is why certain forms of diabetes can be a warning sign for pancreatic cancer. Diabetes is the condition, it has several causes; the treatment is the same, artificial insulin supplementation. You can live without any pancreas at all.

So, while your life-expectancy is reduced somewhat and you can't live a carefree lifestyle, "days are numbered" is a massive exaggeration.

It's true that you can live without any pancreas at all, and your analysis of diabetes vs pancreatic cancer is spot-on, but you have to get that shit diagnosed _asap_. Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all cancers--91% die within 5 years. Is that because people just refuse to get their pancreas removed? No, it's because delivery from the pancreas is one of the easiest pathways for cancer, meaning that pancreatic cancer metastasizes before most symptoms show up at all. If you manage to get diagnosed with pancreatic cancer for any reason other than "I'm super paranoid and get tests done all the time", chances are _incredibly_ high that it's already stage 4, which means you are very much doomed. But if you do manage to get it diagnosed early, you can more or less fix it by a snap decision to either have the cancer excised or (less commonly) to have your entire pancreas removed.

Cancer is always named by its origin point. It won't be called lung or liver cancer even if the cancer has spread to those places from the origin point of the pancreas.

No you can get pancreatic cancer. Diabetes is a different disease,in which your body needs insulin.

So where does this rank between these: Anohana, Your Lie in April, and Clannad?

(Also, are there any where the GUY dies instead?)

the trip was nice, i wonder if he'll comply with more of her wishes now, reality hit him hard on the last few pages poor guy

Wouldn't this be funnier if she actually could survive on eating pancreas and she talked that pushover mc into killing people to get their pancreas? The title could be "1 Litre of Pancreas".

Watched the live action adaptation, loved it. Looking forward to the manga too.

…Isn't pancreatic disease just, like, diabetes? People live well into their sixties or longer with that.

Im bit jealous with the MC
