Seeing how the author is fond of using psychedelic expressions in his stories, I am intrigued to see where this Edo base time-period manga will lead to. In the beginning it's pretty much normal stuff to the point you thought he might be leaning towards something orthodox this time, rest assured that is not the case. Tengus on unicorns, why hasn't anyone thought of that first?

This mangaka is becoming one of my favorites. His creative way of using panels is unique and very cinematographic. Although this might be a little tamer than his other works, Katajikenai is simple to read, but not short of his usual magical-realism.  At one point, I'm not sure how he is going to end the story with a lot going on, but everything comes full circle in the last chapter. If you're fond of Japanese history and changes in the midst of western advancement, as well as the heroes who contributed, you should check this out.
