This has actually been updated quite a bit since #28...
This thing is depressing
Answering seriously, Japan does have a class of 'Spirits' or 'Gods' named Tsukumogami, Artifact Gods, they are Spirits that exist inside all things that we used (It is believed that if an item or relic is taken care of for hundred years, it will become a Tsukumogami). The closest definition to it will be animism I suppose.

The most daunting prospect in the description of this manga above is the possibility of there being a plausible explanation for Kancolle...
