It says hiatus, but searching around it's been two years since the last actual manga release in Japan. There is little hope of it picking up.

Well, indeed. I assume it was dropped by the publisher due to some circumstances (read the spoiler if you've read the manga).

Anyway, probably it says hiatus because the publisher gave hope for the mangaka to continue it someday, but it seems that chance will never come, thought. Or it's simply because the mangaka decided to take a rest for a while, but in the end never continue it.

Ah well, I don't know for sure. It says that it's still hiatus as well at Japan.

Edit: Just noticed it's on hiatus. Well, at mangaupdates it also says that the manga is on hiatus at Japan. So, I guess I may have the chance to see this series continued in the future.

Here's hoping that it is a one and that the hiatus isn't too much longer. It sucks to have it at the climax of the story only to be stopped so suddenly.

I heard the author was woman author and she took maternity leave to give birth and raise kids, but its been on hiatus give or take a year so it may be a dude and all I am saying may be rumors, but iris zero went on hiatus and came back so you never know

I really love this series. I'm actually glad that the mangaka put it on hiatus instead of giving it a rushed ending, because I would rather have the hope that it can be continued later instead of the letdown of a rushed conclusion.

I really hope this manga comes off hiatus. There's a great plot and lots of potential, so hopefully it will be resumed.

The manga's on hiatus, it should be listed as complete, nor should ch44 have the word "end" attached to it.

Batoto needs the "Hiatus" status alongside Ongoing/Complete. :\

Maybe MangaUpdates should add a "Complete...maybe..." list.

Another manga that started strong but became a drag after a dozen or two chapters. It seems many mangaka run out of ideas quickly after they are through with the chapters they make to attract the readers necessary to be continued.
