It's actually pretty simple.  The Japanese use the same kanji in their system or writing as the Chinese do so a thousand or so years ago when they probably first translated Chinese literature into Japanese they kept the kanji for the names the same.  Since the Japanese have different ways of reading the same kanji they ended up reading it in with that pronunciation rather than the original one since I don't think they had anything like the katakana used today to write foreign names.

By the way, the Chinese do the same thing to Japanese names more or less.

So you are saying that...OK...they use the same characters...but they are pronounced completely differently? How is it that they got all the other translations right apparently, just that they didnt bother to check that the names were pronounced correctly?

It would be like if i translated a book to another language, and i get everything right...but all the words referring to doors are translated to completely wrong things....

I just dont get why the elevens made up completely new names for chinese historical figures that dont sound anything like the original names.

Its not unusual to pronounce names slightly incorrectly...the chinese pronounciation for "obama" is like "ow-bama"....but how the fuck do you go from "guan yu" to "kan'u"....g and k does not even sound similar...not to mention "yu" and "u" dont sound similar either.

Like, "oda nobunaga" is a japanese name...but we can pronounce it just fine in english...now imagine if the americans changed it to "bob johns" instead which doesn't even sound similar. Obviously nobody actually does that because it would be retarded, but at some point someone evidently thought it woud be a great idea to change the names of tons of chinese historical figures to completely new names in japanese for some reason...

Tried to give this a read because I love the VN's art style but oh dear lord this is just...painful! The action sequences are terribly drawn to nigh existent, I mean things are happening but it's incomprehensive what's happening. I found almost all the characters unlikeable, mainly Kan'u and Ryuubi, for multiple reasons, and the story has yet to show me a protagonist or relationship I want to see succeed. The manga isn't for me and I'll be happy to stick with VN art pictures.

The Yellow Scarves? Where's Masaomi?

I tried reading it, but I too couldn't stand Ryuubi.

Me too.

It's like: "Here. Have a dumbass, cuuute *retches*, useless kid which does stupid stuff so that the story progresses. And, yeah, look how cute he is. Isn't he cuuuute!? You must like him, especially if you're female. If you don't, you're probably killing puppies in your freetime."

*le sigh*

They were outnumbered, even if a single Juuza can indeed beat multiple human, given that they're a village-size community vs army that Sousou have, if he want to he can hunt them down later.

They clearly don't want the emperor to know they were using the tribe, so maybe is not so legal to employ them. And maybe is just that I have read too many books with similar situation where the protagonist has a good brain and actually makes use of it, while they didn't even attemp to change the village location or emigrate to another land where there's less prejuice.

I really would love an update for Christmas!!

I like the story, but both Kan'nu and Ryuubi are just so  stupid -_- in chapter 6 she could have grabbed the kid and just leave, instead she made so that all her group will have to work for that badass and doesn't even ask for how much time. The story have potential the bad part are the main characters. I just can't stand extreme unbelievable stupidity. Some japanese authors really have little imagination (or maybe is a cultural thing about how stupid womens are).

And if they kill Sousou and his comrades, that'd just cause the other lords to hunt them down instead.

Or worse yet is if Ryuubi got killed in the midst of the fight when they try to escape considering he's a non-combat VIP.

Yeah it's totally a 'stupid' idea to not start a losing war.

And aside from having to work for Sousou, what's the difference between escape to try to return to the village (where the human already know where it is) and just staying at the land Sousou gave?

So far she's reminding me of Luke from Tales of Abyss

Spoiler

Agreed, she should just become a killing machine and start killing indiscriminately, innocents, friends and foes alike, then she should drink their blood and bathe in it.

As for characters, Ryuubi is the most irksome in a way. People are attracted to his pureness and innocent and I suppose it's a ray of light in a prejudice world but frankly it's ignorance and naivete that's going to get people killed. Is it the usual ignorance until some serious blood is spilled kind of character? They really lucked out on actually educating the kid well. Especialy since he's the would-be leader whose only redeeming quality right now seems to be his noble blood of Ryuu. Everything going on right now is just going to traumatize him into inactivity or activity. So far it looks like useless activity (bordering inactivity) that's forcing his people to have blood on their hands. He's such a burden...

Just following for Kan'u. She HAS to get a level up in badass in the next few chapters.

Who the white haired Juuza on the cover? A badass Ryuubi maybe? He has claws so maybe it's like that beast transformation thing that was mentioned

The diction in these scanlations is really setting me off (first one being "hegemony" a word with strength that isn't being used correctly) as well as how some things are being phrased....otherwise, it's a good story for historical fiction.

Also it seems like everyone is an enemy as long as they look down on the Cat Tribe. So much antagonism in this story....

Kinda sad about how the fight scenes are drawn. I feel it's quite still, even for manga

Way to sparkly for my taste
It seems a boring reverse harem shoujo but i can't be sure from just first chapter so, will follow. Maybe will turn out good, who knows?
Also even if art looks fluffy and cute, it irritates me a little because artist draws the chest area(both chouhi and kan'u) somewhat absurd- or is it just me?
I ♥ Kan'nu and Ryuubi or something to be together!!! :">
Looks so good! Can't wait for more~
