Wow a pretty powerful silent manga.

Weird. I read the author's commentary at the end but it reads like the author had a bizarre dream and then wrote this entire story based on what he could remember.
This prose is so purple it could play Child in Time.
Haven't read it yet, but I wonder whether this is connected to Brazil: the rosewood tree family is only called jacarandá by the native peoples of the tupi stem on South America, and the word made its way into Portuguese and is how we refer to those trees.
Brazil, of course, has the largest Japanese community outside Japan. Will definitely read this later if only as a curiosity.
