Akane Tachibana is a freshman high school student who, despite his talent for basketball, decides to abandon sports clubs due to the pressure put on him by them. Once he arrives at Kouzu High, however, he meets the only other basketball player who has ever caught his eye on the courts and decides to join the team. The first match of the season is an exhibition game against the league's strongest team, Hyamazaki—the team that Hiiragi's father coaches and in which his older brother plays for. Hiiragi ends up playing in the second half of the game, and they seem to not be working well together on the court, losing the game, until unintentionally one of the senior players on the team challenges them to beat him. They join forces, inspiring the team to victory. Thus starts the story of a group of teenagers working to reach the top, fighting tooth and nail the entire way. |

For me, I'll CKBC or Generation Basket
(for some others)is like a combination of Slam Dunk and Beck. I'll CKBC has parts that really get your blood running high like Slam Dunk( in the basketball zone) and has many slap sick humour. Compariably to Slam Dunk, I'll CKBC contains more outside drama and is less focused towards each match. At other times, I'll CKBC is able to wind things down and embodies BECK's sense of melo calming slice of life school life feel.Although, this manga may not be as long as the others. I believe, I'll CKBC has its own unique artistic taste in the manga world. Its rare to see manga present in the way that Asada Hiroyuki did. The manga really lets take a peak of what each character's inner 風景 fukei (or mindscape) is like, with little or no words, it gets the message across. Allowing each landscape detail and object symbolism is burned into reader's mind. In which, I find memorable till this day.
Overall, this manga is about living life now, grasping your own dreams with your own two hands and walking down this path you chose with your companions.
If anyone wants to read a sports manga featuring a laid back group of teenagers, filled slice of life comedy, a uniquely different style of drawing, and sense of reminescing in the 90's (clothing designs, shoes, trends), will enjoy this manga a lot =D.
