...what in the name of hell is this comment section?  Are we all TRYING to get it locked?  It sure looks like people are trying to get it locked.

those are just the popular examples. a small research would yield more cases of men's lives being destroyed by assholes.

Between the manga's title and the preceding talk about people being wrongly imprisoned, I first read this as "more cases of men's assholes being destroyed".

The lack of empathy comes from so many of you telling everyone else they have to find this funny because nobody could possibly be bothered by this. You're allowed to find this funny. You're not allowed to dictate whether anyone else finds this funny.

Your wording is telling: You accuse people you disagree with of telling people how to behave, then segue into how you think people are "allowed" to feel about it.

Personally, I don't find it funny either. But "It's okay because they did it first" quickly leads to what pilots call a death spiral.

That's the thing really. The intent of a joke and the reception of it are very separate because comedy is subjective. A joke that no one finds funny is still a joke, just not a good one, like dad jokes. This was clearly intended as a joke, and the childhood friend in general, but it and her have definitely came across is a manner which I can put money on not being as the author intended.

She is introduces as someone who is overly attached to Atsuki, a guy who has been shown thus far to be very caring to those around him, and yet he basically snubbed her beyond barely tolerating her presence and it came across as schadenfreude at her expense. Now move forward to this chapter and the schadenfreude is back but this time directed at Atsuki, with Atsuki suddenly being welcoming to her and her now snubbing him, reversing their roles from her introduction chapter.

What is her point? Why are chapters involving her not only inconsistent in regards to her personality traits but those of others? To reiterate I don't think it her fault per say as a character and a lot to do with the inexperience of the author.

To your point about it being the authors fault and not the characters. I think that the author was trying use this as a way to get  her close to Kasane. Being as how Kasane will likely stay with Atsuki until she graduates from high school. This girl is no doubt Atsuki's future love interest. Kasane will have to like her. Don't get me wrong, it was crap writing. I am not too upset over this, because nobody in their rightmind would think Atsuki capable of kidnapping. It shows the worth of his character.

Well, I'm a little late to this convo, but Yohachi said that for people that follow his/her previous projects, you would know that s/he likes to bully characters that s/he likes, it's a way that s/he shows love.

Yohachi agrees with the comments and that his/her writing was bad, but that was just part one of the chapter. S/he is not endorsing other girls to do this. S/he will treat Atsuki better in the future and will scold Tsugumi for this later.

Yohachi sincerely apologized for this, both on twitter and on pixiv.

*This is a combination of a few of Yohachi's tweets and post on pixiv, and this is not in the order in which Yohachi said each part. I also didn't translate everything that Yohachi said.

I didn't think the gag was bad at all.  Especially since the officers immediately realized they had gotten it wrong.

I wonder if Mii, from the spin-off, will be introduced to the series sometime in the future.
After rereading this I realize that the dude who prevented him from calling kasane to tell her he was gonna be late isnt the same dude as his friend. I always thought the friend was a dick but now I realize it wasnt even him lol

because it's currently a big issue especially in america.

I kinda fail to notice how a manga has to treat people in some non-related countries special so they don't get triggered.

The rating of this manga in my must-check-every-time-for-update list hits rock bottom with the most recent chapters. Maybe I will read this again when the you-know-who dies/ gets removed.
By the way, this comment section is for everyone to comment (yeah) about the manga. People finding the "joke" not funny are allowed to state their disappointment, aren't they? Dark humor is funny for someone, and not for others, not the excuse or reason to make everyone accept that it "must" be funny.

To add to that it is black comedy, shock humour at worse. Just because you are offended by it doesn't mean it isn't a joke or it isn't humour, contrary to the popular opinion of our increasingly subjectivity policing world.

And before anyone says "oh it is out of tone of the series!" well that is how comedy works at a very basic level, subversion of expectation. Another very basic aspect of humour is that it is tribal in nature and as such is meant to be divisive, not inclusive. Some people will find it funny, others won't and that's the point.

And before anyone else starts; it is NOT about a lack of empathy. You can be empathetic and still find black comedy funny. The purpose of black comedy is to make light of serious and often taboo subject matter.

The lack of empathy comes from so many of you telling everyone else they have to find this funny because nobody could possibly be bothered by this. You're allowed to find this funny. You're not allowed to dictate whether anyone else finds this funny.

I know That's not funny About false accused for Pedophile and the joke went too far, But Why people in here feel Offended and Triggered??

Can someone explained it to me?
*Sorry i'm Too denses as ichika

because it's currently a big issue especially in america. women accusing men of things they didn't do, sometimes for the lulz of it, sometimes for their own agenda, other times because they changed their minds. it's also used by third wave feminists as a tool for their twisted form of woman empowerment and the inherent double standards in our current society regarding cases like these.

that guy who lost years of his life for allegedly molesting a child then 20 or so years later, evidence was found that he was innocent. an added bonus? his wife who left him after 3 years is now back, with another guy, wanting a portion of the state grant cash for being wrongly accused. iirc the state is thinking about granting her the cash.

there's also a serial cheater who was reported by 10 or so previous girlfriends as a rapist. was he a douche? sure. top level one. did he deserve to be branded as a rapist with his life and future destroyed because of it? no.

there's also that feminism argument regarding consent. if the night before two adults had a consensual sex, then the next morning the woman happens to change her mind about the consent she gave, they believe it's suddenly an act of rape. cray cray if you ask me.

those are just the popular examples. a small research would yield more cases of men's lives being destroyed by assholes.

Perhaps, I could laugh it off and still take it as a joke if she rushed to police box as soon as he's captured or she has been coming out in a lot of chapters. But, nope, she didn't do that nor she's in many chapters. She just introduced recently. Most of pedo jokes I read didn't go as far as this honestly.

That's it. She's introduced as someone who's care taking Atsuki too much. Yet, later she left him alone in a police box. That's one of the reason why the jokes become not that funny (for me)

If anything the complaints should be about the inconsistency of the childhood friend's personality and motives.  Wasn't she just jealous of Kasane and yandere for the MC a couple chapters ago and now she throws him under the bus to hang out with Kasane alone?  The author doesn't even bother to give her a reason that makes sense which just makes the whole thing feel like bad writing more than anything..

Sorry, double post, don't know how to remove this one.

It's not that I'm offended, but I'm disappointed on how the story turned out. And, yeah, I just want to share my opinion about this disappointment in this comment section. Well, I thought that's the purpose of comment section. And, doesn't it good that somehow we're becoming more active because of this chapter? :)

yep, read both chapters again, and that bitch didn't even feel really guilty about what she did

so as Dijon said, the series was used in a realistic enviroment so in that context the author really fuck up

and someone comparing with Puchimasu further proves that point, cause that series is clearly a good ol' comedy, in this manga we had serious drama, it was the story on how the mc was taking care of her niece (that didn't even know he had one) and how he grow up and started to be more reliable and mature and then this shit happens, so far childhoohd friend has make it worse, it would have been better to only work in the sequel (spin off?)

Perhaps, I could laugh it off and still take it as a joke if she rushed to police box as soon as he's captured or she has been coming out in a lot of chapters. Haha, he got treated like piece of shit when he's helping out his sister raise his niece! What a loser, he deserved being considered a pedophile or kidnapper and ditched by a girl whom he considered a friend...

There was nothing humorous about it.

This is what I mean by taking this way too seriously.  It was an unfunny joke, get over it.

I may have said to "get a few laughs in at the expense of the MC" but I was talking more about the intent of the joke or how anyone who isn't easily triggered should react there; more so the "move on" part than getting a laugh in though since it really wasn't funny enough for that.

It's still leaves a bad taste in my mouth and i still hate that bitch.

Anyway.....

Does anyone know what the Japanese readers said about the so called joke chapter?

Checked the comments on pixiv, it went almost exactly the same as here.

What a doormat. He should've punched her for shopping while he's in police custody. That shit is not a joke.

people still get triggered after this chapter?

If there's an option in this chapter, I will choose the option "sorry, do i know you both?"  then be an ass and leave the place when he meet them again after being released.

Will be better humor no doubt.

Eh, if it wasn't such an old joke and hadn't been delivered so very gratuitously it might have been funny.  Not everything intended to be funny, actually is.  And just because something is offensive, doesn't make it funny (or interesting, or sexy, or bold--let's face it, nearly all the transgressions have been done a bunch already; shock value as a tactic is itself pretty much stale).  Similarly, there are lots of suversions of expectation that aren't funny.  Those sorts of elements are known to be involved in humour, but it's not as cut and dried as that.

This is what I mean by "Where PLG goes, essays follow"

I kanna't accept this... the fluffy pin was waaaaay cuter!

The tone of the series is heartwarming. People read this for that effect. Not only is the joke out-of-tone with the rest of the series, the tone of the series means that dark humor won't be appreciated by most of the readers, since they read this to forget that the world is shit.

When people say, "This isn't a joke," it's just a harsher version of "This is a bad joke." And quite frankly, I'm really not sure what's funny about it myself, but it was clearly meant to be humorous. I just think this shows a great disconnect between author and audience. Most people who read shit like this just want to read about cute, heartwarming moments and be left alone, so the idea of having the protagonist taken by the police for being with his niece will not be taken well.

I will agree that you can be empathetic towards the MC and men in general and still find the joke funny, I just think that most readers of such a moe series which is meant to give a desire to protect wouldn't like the MC being denied protection over his cute niece due to being betrayed by a childhood friend.

I mean, there wasn't even any character development by the childhood friend, and this certainly didn't make her a more endearing character.

I think the general tone of the childhood friend has been rather odd since her introduction tbh and I'm not sure what her actual role is. The distant and dismissive way Atsuki treated her upon her arrival is at odds with his behaviour towards pretty much everyone else thus far. The type of humour derived from how she is treated and how she treats others is atypical of the previous chapters and I think it has much to do with this being a published pixiv series and the authors first series. She's an airhead yandere and I can't figure out what the point of that is. I hold no ill feelings to her as a character because I just don't get her yet.

As for why this type of humour is funny to some it is a lot to do with the subversion of exceptions that I mentioned. It is humour based upon deliberate violations of casual reasoning in order to produce events and behaviours that are obviously illogical. That alone is just surrealist humour but by injecting taboo subject matter, making light of serious topics and satire on those topics it becomes black comedy. The point of it is that it's absurd yet able to provoke discomfort in the audience in order to cause simultaneous amusement and serious thought.

Now do I necessarily think that was the author's intent? My first point in this comment should tell you what I think about that but unintentional or otherwise it did end up as black comedy.
