Maybe I'll give it another read just before batoto goes down. For nostalgia's sake.

I didn't think I'd cry this much from rereading it again.

Truly one of the best manga created.

as always Mizukami-sensei really knows how to deliver ... Sengoku Youko is one of my favorite mangas of all time, but this one really is great too, he knows how to appeal to empathy. (also MC really reminded me about Shinsuke, not as great, but as it's core and things about him it made me like him better as he grew up as a character)

when the owl revealed his main goal, dammit onion ninjas were everywhere T_T

Flare, Sol just said that he went through the first 20 chapters, they didn't give up after only a couple.  If a manga doesn't grab your attention in the first 5 ch. than it is poorly written.

I haven't read this yet, and plan to give it a try, maybe it does improve towards the end/middle, but if it doesn't interest me by the 10th chapter than I bale any manga as being poorly written/executed.

And by my earlier statement about the first 5 ch. that's being very generous to the mangaka.

It's fine if you dropped it because you didn't like the start, no problem. But

Spoiler

This is my favorite Manga of all time, and I feel the need to share this with all of you, because I think it's honestly and truly one of the greatest love letters to a manga I've ever seen in my entire life.

(PS: anyone who HASN'T READ the manga yet, STOP. This video spoils EVERYTHING. Including the ending.)

Spoiler

How fair of you to judge a book based on its cover and its back cover without even regarding how it got from point A to B. Honestly, the intro of this manga really was kinda sloppy. It was slow and the MC was too edgy to be enjoyable, but muscling through after a couple of chapters, you can clearly see his growth as both a character and a person and that's what's one of the most enjoyable things about this manga.

It's a journey of a group of characters as they mature and show off their maturity.

Fuck.

Just, FUUCK.

All the characters are so lovable, and that extra chapter showing Akane growing up...

MY TEARS

Fuck you manga for making me cry!

This is the one of those world-class-recommended-stories, that I'll never actually read. So I just read the final few chapters, and that's about it.

A year ago, I went through about 20 or so chapters, and I couldn't go through with it. It was apparent that the author thought the whole "Knights who save the world" is a super cool idea, and wanted to get to it as fast as possible...Without really knowing how to transition the MC from being a normal person, to the supernatural.
To resolve that, the author...Turned the MC into a psycho, with the excuse of a very unlikely, and poorly excused and reasoned out traumatic childhood, courtesy of his senile grandfather. With the MC successfully being as abnormal as possible, the author can easily use "childhood trauma" as an excuse to make a speedy transition into the supernatural without pacing anything in particular. But since that by itself wasn't fast enough, there were numerous info-dumps by the plot-lizard which tried to get the MC to become "A knight" asap.
...It just felt rushed, it was incompetent writing. It would've been better if the story just started out from the supernatural, so there would not be the need for such a massive transition from normality to abnormality (and thus, not needing to have a psychopathic MC to make it easier). It was more like a draft than a published work, tbh.

Moving a few chapters ahead, what was left of the story was pretty much the same level of writing. The author was struggling against himself to finally reach his vision, a world doomed through time and space by an unfortunate struggle which demanded the aid of a group of not-so random people to save it~~~~ But he struggled so much with himself to get there, that pretty much everything else was ignored and was written on the spot. After a few more dozen chapters, I gave up on the manga.
I can't say much about the rest of the story, but the start of it? It bears the cross of amateur-teenager-fanfiction-level-angst. It seems this is one of those things that you enjoy because of nostalgia, or when you're new enough to manga and anime. Otherwise, to me, this comes across as a low-quality story that you do not have any reason in particular to read in terms of uniquely explored concepts or narratives.
I don't get why this author is praised that much, when it seems like the only perk this manga has, is nostalgia.

it's become really good when the rest of the knight appear

Just stop being a ponce and read it.

This is still my favourite manga ever.

Satoshi is a God-tier master.

That was actually planned (w/ Gainax), but during a lull in the planning stages, the available funding was moved to Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

Nearly broke my heart, that did.

I don't know how this damn rumor spread, but until someone posts the supposed Newtype issue raw that mentions this, it's a hoax. One that was apparently meant to pit fans of this manga against fans of the popular show of that time (which was PSG).

TFW we'll never get an anime of this with The Pillows OST. All these years...

I read this manga a year ago.. I cried at Kusakabe's arc (more like his childhood gf but he was still a moving factor so I still call it HIS arc).

I read it a few months again after that, still cried

And I read it just now again... still cried. This is a damn awesome manga. I won't hesitate to buy it if I can get it locally. Import tax is a bitch

Just received my copy of the English version of volumes 1-2, and it's overall a pretty good job. I miss some of the turns of phrase of the fan translations, but then again the quality's a lot more consistent and it benefits from the two volumes stuck together over just the first on its own. If you can afford to drop the money on it, it's well worth considering.

Thanks for answering my question. I thought it had something to do with Crunchyroll getting the series (maybe it kinda does). It's still strange that not everything gets removed.

The chance it is Crunchyroll is really high. They have a history of having the stuff they licensed purged through DMCA.

Its because of dmca https://vatoto.com/forums/topic/20345-more-dmca/. I hope this means were getting it translated and officially released.
Edit: Actually nvm this is going to be in english on November 4th 2014. i guess they are releasing it.

What happened to chapters 1 until 50? A week ago they were all here.

How do I ask for an anime? xD

Go back in time and convince someone at the record label of The Pillows (a band they really wanted to license for the anime since it was referenced heavily by the series) to say yes to the licensing. Preferably with a crowbar. Seriously, music license discussions and the label's intransigence held things up so long Gainax had to just let it go and put the money earmarked for an anime into another project.

Last time I had such great finishing was probably 5 years ago when I finished BECK.

Fufu, 27 years sure passed by, am I ever getting closerof becoming adult? Theres sure is some future for me.
