So around seven months ago I actually found out about this new kind ofspin-off but hadn't seen anything of it yet. Good to know that it's in the same universe(?).

Yes. It appears to have ended recently; the third and final volume went on sale last month.

What can i write? I'm as much dissapointed/annoyed/vexed etc. as any other guy. Not really sure what exactly happened, whether editors axed the manga or magazine has been cancelled, it was quite a good cooking manga. Can't really say what stuff about cooking was real and which wasn't but still for me reading this manga has been mostly enjoyable, with exception of tournament arc but other than that everything was great so it's a shame to not see a proper ending. Well i hope we will see a continuation in the future because it's way too much of a waste of good material to not do anything with it.

After the magazine serializing this ceased publication in 2014, the manga was supposed to continue in a new magazine to be launched in 2015, and the author was working on Part 2 of the story. Unfortunately the new magazine's launch was delayed, and when it finally began publication the author was serialized with a new manga, Bの食卓.

According to Amaji, the new manga focuses on characters from Hell's Kitchen but is intended as a separate work rather than a spinoff. He hopes it will be accessible to new and returning readers alike, and that one day it will connect to Hell's Kitchen Part 2.

The writer, Nishimura, is focusing on the much more successful Nobunaga no Chef at the moment. The artist started a spin-off manga focused on Beelzebub, but the story is unrelated, and I'm not certain if it's still going.

 

Still, I really enjoyed Hell's Kitchen. Compared to Souma, the art was refreshingly different and Moriya seemed to grow a little more as a chef and as a person through his story. Not that Dogma wasn't a diabolus ex machina for most of the early chapters, but Moriya went from being an ordinary person to being a decently-skilled chef with the confidence to break away from Dogma in a way that Souma hasn't yet with his father.

 

I will miss Hell's Kitchen. Nishimura wrote a great cast of supporting characters without relying overmuch on genre cliches, and aside from the misstep with the tournament it's generally been a well-paced, episodic shonen. Amaji's art is very good too, with a lightness that suits the story's style and characters.

Overall, I'm happy just to know that the series got chopped due to a delay and not because it was doing poorly or something along those lines. I've know about Nobunaga since it first started and I'm even going to go back to it now since I need my cooking manga fix and I honestly can't stand Shokugeki since I feel like it's incredibly repetitive.

Moriya is one of the main reasons I've loved this series since it started and one of my absolute favorite chapters was when Dogma has forced him into making ramen for "hard core" fans and ended up making that goat milk island. That was something I never knew and it was refreshing to learn about it and all the other little things like using vinegar to help make souffle stable and things along that line.

Amaji's art is without a doubt cluttered but it has this amazing charm that made me stick with this series and even actively look for whatever else he's done and I'll certainly be extremely happy once we start getting the new series on here (apparently it's three volumes in at the moment.) As for the cast I'll just about fully agree except for the case of Tachibana. One of my dislikes are characters in cooking series that believe scents and spices are the best and or only way to cook. Tachibana wasn't an exception for me to dislike but I've grown to like him as he grew to appreciate cooking after the science arc. Though my biggest gripe is that after that it feels like it didn't happen at all. Tachibana was missing for a few chapters and all we got out of it were some extra characters and Tachibana admitting to attending the science lectures since then. I know there wasn't much time at all to work off of what he was doing after that cooking arc but I just feel like that was a missed opportunity. Aside from that bread girl is best girl since bread is life.

I'm going to stop typing now since for the first time in my life I'm going through a series withdrawal and I know I'm on the verge of ranting about possible things that could have happened in the future.

At least it ended somewhat decently, which is more than what most manga get.

thats so sad I really liked it.

not so sure of that, the big arc of the manga was the science vs food, but after that it got stale, maybe the author didn't know how to end well the series, specially since it's a monthly manga, the notice of the axe should have been with more time and the other 2 chapters of the last volume are too nonsensical to prepare for a good ending.

Man this difference in style was really jarring at first but this was easily one of the better chapters I've read in a while.

So my ten cents on the giraffe.

It has a lot, if not everything, to do with skill and aesthetics. This series for a while has been working on showing how to make food look appealing to people. I don't remember which specific chapter but they even shows how to make something more presentable by shifting the direction it faces. Something they showed again in chapter 44 when they were serving the squid spaghetti.

 

They've gone on about how baking/confection is a science but it has always been presented well even with Levi who mainly used molds for his baking. I think it was a bit of a more sudden focus on it but 46 clearly had a focus on design and style when Levi said all the baked goods looked simple and plain. France has a stereotype that it's the land of desserts. Another cooking manga, Bambino, (it's very good in the first series but I dropped it during the second because the direction it was going was dumb) also had a focus for a while on the style and design of desserts.

 

I realize this is going everywhere and a half since I'm a very stream of consciousness thinker so I'm going to end it here before I ramble on.

 

TL;DR - The reason he was disqualified was most likely purely aesthetic and the fact that the giraffe was the finishing touch had damned that touch even more.

possibly because it's childish, low in art and don't get considered as "beauty" ?

(it's like simple snack cookies for children, for all people who WORSHIP art, that kind of thing probably looks like abomination)

remember, all of them need to be top in artistic ...

(tough I still thinking getting disqualified because a single candy / biscuit giraffe for that kind of godly art is too much)

I could see him not getting 1st place, but getting last place because of a Giraffe? Those judges really hated that aesthetic I guess.
