So he wasn't calling her a pig.  He was calling her quality--the best pig there is.

It was pretty obvious that he wasn't at all tricked by her since the beginning too, so it shows that he liked her all along. He wasn't 'turned off' by the fact that she lost weight or anything either. Throughout the whole story, he doesn't even mention anything about her body. He just liked her because it was her, but he didn't realise teasing her like that would make such a big impact on her. But in the end they got that sorted out so it's all good xD

What an idiot, but sweet & kind of funny to see his faux pas redeemed in the end.  

Mind you, my first instinct is that it's a compliment.  Iberico are possibly the most awesome pigs in the world.

So free range they practically live in the forest, these legendary Spanish black pigs are the source of the incredible Jamon Iberico.  Top of the line Jamon Iberico comes from purebred Iberico pigs that eat mostly acorns, maintaining the ecosystem of the cork-oak forests (which give us the corks on wine bottles and stuff).  Stuff costs like ten times or more what you'd pay for any normal ham.  Spain practically worships ham.  When I went to Madrid, there was this big classy deli on a main street in the heart of the city; it was called "Museo del jamon"--Museum of Ham.  The most useful Spanish phrase I learned, which could get me through any time the hunger pangs struck, was "Un bocadillo de jamon, por favor" ("A ham sandwich, please").  And in this ham-obsessed country, Jamon Iberico is the undisputed king.

Woah, the amount of info there just gave alot more insight as to why he called her that specific kind of 'pig' xD. I wonder if the author researched all of that or it was just coincidence? Regardless, it was really cute. I saw his comment as endearing rather than mocking. It's part of our culture to relate pigs to something bad, but when you think about it, they're generally smart animals.
