Because his character change was forced and unnatural? The story takes place over the course of a few months, yet the audience is supposed to believe that Shu, a typical shounen high school student goes, from wimp, to tyrant, to king/savior of the world.
I'm not saying the story should have been a decades long epic, but its by no means good character development.
Whats with all the Shu bashing? Yea he was one of the wimpiest MCs at the beginning of the Anime but by the end of it all, I personally respected him.
It was originally an anime, the manga and novel came after.

true...1). The MC is a wimpy, not like when he was just a little kid, 2). I really hate those side characters, it even made the MC worse, their personalities and behaviours, I don't know, it just feels like they ruin the story 3). The MC also went through pain too much, I know its karma, its just too much, he doesnt deserved it after all that had happened

Readskimmed through the first chp, nothing new, drawing is not great... 2nd all the comments about anime... go watch the anime instead if you're thinking about reading this.Actually the only thing I like about the anime is Chelly who sang as Inori XD
Anyway, this first part is too young to get the really good story. Its code geass all over, like i saw earlier someone, i agreed. A a little too crybaby for me at the beginning.
But well, what we want is mainstream and this fits like a glove. You will hate the protagonist, the girl is empty (literally), the cool guy is unrealistic, but the bad guys are stupid, funny, intelligent and lot of twist on their part. Also the very cool battles is what we want.
