| Description: | One day in the 21st century, a gate opened in the middle of the Ginza district of Tokyo. Out of the gate poured soldiers and strange creatures, and they soon made Ginza look like an image of hell. The gate apparently connected Japan to another world, a world with a militant empire and many supernatural creatures. The Japanese Self-Defense Force decided to send a small group, led by a soldier who's also an otaku, into the other world on a reconnaissance mission. They're meant to learn what they can about the empire (and its plans), the world, and the people. They're hardly in the world yet, though, when they come across a village destroyed by a giant fire-breathing dragon. The only survivor is an unconscious elven girl they find hidden in a well. Now they feel like they must warn the nearby towns about the dragon, and do what they can to help. Fire breath is going to have limited range. Most likely significantly less than most cannons or machine guns mounted on planes, much less air to air missiles (in which some cases can target enemies and track them from miles away.) Yes, the world is magic, but even the fastest of flying animal in existence(a peregrine falcon can hit 240 mph in a dive) couldn't match typical cruise speed of most mid-generation WWII fighters, much less jets. You'd be stupid to turn battle an enemy who is that much slower than you, and would instead use boom and zoom tactics. As long as their weapons were functional a typical fighter could engage a dragon without even getting in range of it's fire breath and the dragon wouldn't be able to close the distance.
You could argue their scales would deflect machine gun rounds. But the scales are described as hard as tungsten, but they're at most maybe an inch thick. There are many accounts of airplane mounted cannons being able to pierce multiple inches of composite tungsten carbide ceramic armor like Chobham in strafing runs, and a small rocket propelled grenade ripped the entire arm off probably the strongest magical beast in the entire world. Not telling what something like an AIM-120 AMRAAM would do or anything with a larger payload than that.
In times of alert, any airfield or aircraft carrier uses cycled shifts so that at any time some of the patrol craft up in the air would be fully armed and fueled. And lets not forget surface to air AA weaponry like SAM's and AA guns which they've already shown in action. Yes a dragon could attack landing craft, but the likely hood they could get even close to an airfield without gaining air superiority is slim to none and they wouldn't have the capability to do even that, as there's no way dragons or any army could approach within a few miles of their defense grid without them knowing.

Not sure what tactics were used but you guys are seriously overrating the capability of aircraft. Yeah dragons probably not going to win in a head on fight but it's still possible. Save for dedicated ground attack aircraft remember that most jets aren't that well armored and are pretty much glass canons. Engines are vulnerable to dust and debris - there are reasons why USAF does daily foreign object debris sweeps across the entire runway (unless you're russian in which your sweep is just throwing the entire engine out). Sandstorms and volcanic dust can wreck your engines.
There are also tactics that can be used to take down jets or fuck their operating conditions really hard. Jump them during predictable takeoff and landing sequences. Hug the terrain really low (dragons are probably more akin to helicopters so this is likely a good idea). There's also the case of the Tamil Tigers who used propeller planes (yes, they actually had an air force at one point somehow) to bomb Sri Lankan air force bases and Sri Lankan MiGs were unable to stop them because they flew too low and too slow in hilly+jungle terrain for them to get a long enough window to attack.
Besides, there's fucking magic and I'm pretty sure Puff is a magic dragon.
At least it ain't slow, but compared to truly great combat aircraft? Absolutely. Compared to a fantasy dragon. No. Hell, give me anything post 1940.

Looks like Diabo will be one step closer to his objective: find a third power and mess things up further. He will probably go through the gate with the collaboration of some foreign press member, probably a spy, and stir things up.
