Thanks for finishing this one! It was a fun ride.
Nuuuh, it is over ?
Some thoughts on the final chapters then:
Uwaaah, someone drew a spooky face on the pavement with chalk. How scary ;<
Oh and neat how her dress stays perfectly in place so as not to reveal anything lewd while climbing down the wall :3
Bya! I was kinda expecting that one to end with him finding the old book, unsealing the last page and finding it even scarier or something.
I dont know how the author of this series can sleep after drawing some of those creatures. He may say that most of the chapters are fiction, but are they?.
Thanks a lot for finishing this series!
Thanks a lot for finishing this!
Thanks for finishing this! It's good to have some closure.
Not sure why the ends of 104 and 108 weren't translated, here's my stab at 'em.
104: "When something is written in pencil, even if it's erased there are traces that remain. I feel that the traces of life and living likewise cannot be completely erased. CHAPTER OF ERASURE" [list of chapter titles]
108: "Extinction and reconstruction...don't you think the seeds spread among you who are endangered might sprout once again? CHAPTER OF EXTINCTION" [list of chapter titles]
EDIT: kinda fuzzy on "縁あって" ("on the edge", which I took to mean "endangered", considering the theme) on the second one, I think it's supposed to be modifying "you" and not "seeds"...but I could be wrong.
EDIT EDIT: ...of course, "縁" also refers to "karmic connection"...he could be referring to us readers, who share a connection by having the seeds spread among us. It's also possible that both are intended. Bah, tricksy Japanese language...
Thanks for finishing this.
So it's finally done. Anyone happen to know if volume 1, 3, and 4 prologues were translated btw?
You're a saint, Dondake/mushroom_fairy. Thank you for finally giving us closure to this series.
Man, This was unexpected, I was waiting for read this one for a long time to be completed.
Thank you so much for finally completing the rest of the series!
the title's pretty appropriate, since none of the stories are enough to actually scare anyone. kinda unintentionally funny
It seems. It kind of reminded me of Bakemonogatari tbh.
So she created a demon or a curse xD
He really worked hard on that 100th chapter...
I think you’ll find that re-reading them won’t make them any better. They have indeed always been pretty simplistic and so short that there wasn’t really a way of building up any tension.
...Well, I guess I'll start re-reading everything in preparation for Halloween.
This one was good, not scary but still nice.
Huh? So what did the guy in the bushes splatter against? Was it like a telephone pole or something?
It's getting weaker with each chapter.
95 is the "prisoner in the well" theme in Japanese horror. The basic idea is that something was left there to die but it didn't, and you know it didn't because it can communicate in some way. The taboo is that you should NOT respond in any way to its communication, because any response will make it aware of your existence - and it might go after you. If this sounds familiar, that's because The Ring was a variation of this classic theme.
Interestingly, the "prisoner in the well" is a real phenomenon in Japan due to the way Japanese wells are constructed. As you can see, the cross-section is rectangular (or square). The bottom of the well has a chamber with a small ledge. What this means is that any movement of the water at the base of the well will cause oscillations in two directions perpendicular to each other. When microtremors (happens all the time on volcanic islands like Japan) trigger the oscillations, strange discordant sounds not unlike moans and bass thumps can be heard. If this is amplified by gases escaping from the ground through the well, and the walls are made of porous volcanic rock, it can sound like people talking in a deep baritone. So this is an interesting horror theme that has real-life roots. Nowadays we can explain it scientifically, but a few centuries back it must have been really scary.
That said, 95 is lame. Even knowing the context I feel the chapter itself is very poorly constructed.
Wasn't something like that on the news some years ago?
