Look up Star Money. It's an actual fairy tale the Brothers Grimm got from Germany.

The mysterious black clad man appears in every episode of this series. Never named, he's powerful and generally moves the plot along at his own whims. While he's cast as somewhat menacing, and often throws obstacles in the path of the protaganists, he usually helps them in the end. When there's a villain (there wasn't one here, but, for example, http://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/erotic-fairy-tales-snow-white-r10127 ), he'll start out helping them but betray them in the end and add them to his "collection". He's stated on a few occassions that his only real interest is advancing the story.
Wait what.
Who was the mysterious black clad man? And what was the source story for this episode?
Edit: Never mind, found it. Still don't get who that guy was supposed to be though.
