Description: | The story involves human mutations called "dicloniuses," who grow horns on their heads and possess telekinetic powers, in the form of invisible "arms" called vectors. The tendency for violence among dicloniuses varies among characters. Certain scientists contain them in a Facility in cells, where they are subject to inhumane experiments to test their abilities or where they await execution for being too dangerous. An infectious virus is also associated with the mutation. This virus is spread through non-lethal contact with the vectors of a diclonius. The main non-mutant character in the story is Kouta, who ends up becoming increasingly involved with these dicloniuses, as they seek refuge from the scientists. The main diclonius character is Lucy/Nyuu, a killer whose alter ego is a hapless and very cute child whose vocabulary and intelligence are quite limited. After a large amount of choice occurrences, the lives of these two characters become inexplicably intertwined. |

i need a cigarette.
ch36 first impression:
Another mess made by indesicive lying cliffhanger maker harem protagonist.
I've read a lot of manga in a few short years, and i still keep up with big long epics like One Piece, Cheery bright and great ones like Bakuman and follow promising new manga like Boku no Hero Academia, but whenever i start to think about what will be my favorite, most intense read - its gotta be this one. What sucks is that everyone in real life i've ever showed it to hates it. The violence, nudity, and overwhelming negativity are not something i can fault them for not liking, either. But beneath it all, its just...
I guess it'll just be something private to me. Other people may not get it, but for me, i'm so glad i read this manga.
She raped him after the anime ended they are her twin daughters.
It's Nyu and Lucy/Kaede reincarnated, somehow.
I feel like i understand the ending but then I feel like i didnt understand it........who were those two at the end that he saw?
"beautiful" is the story behind the wall of "This is sickening, fucked up to an overwhelming extent" like you said. also its a reminder of how we humans make this world both a hell and a heaven."there are real brutal stories on our history yet we never bother to understand them"
Grotesque and disturbing many times, but beautiful and the people felt real, albeit terrible at times.
It shows how horrible we can be and the damage we can do without entirely meaning to be, but the answer we must choose and the path we must take to never cause that much pain to others.
Fucking beautiful this gets a remake someday..especially adaptating some of the later chapters that weren't animated.
Not gonna lie, I love this manga. Sure, the story takes a weird turn every now and then, but what it got right, it got right.
Most notably, I just can't help but adore the backstories of Lucy and Kurama, and in hindsight I feel the manga should have focused more on those two. Lucy's backstory, I'd argue, is all things considered a better story than that of Carrie since there's a real feeling of tragedy when things go wrong after starting to look up, creating a hope spot. And Kurama is another tragic character tormented quite subtly at first by a dark past and trying to cope with his past sins, up to and beyond his breaking point.
On a more negative note, most other characters aren't nearly as interesting, and quite a few of them really don't serve much of a purpose in the main story. So much so that only Kouta, Nana and Mariko are even necessary at all. Bonus points (in both the positive and negative sense) go to Bando and Mayu's interactions, which would have made a readworthy manga on their own, I feel.
All in all, I really can't call the whole a masterpiece, and while it does make it in my mental top ten list, it unfortunately does so as a guilty pleasure.
Good luck with that. It's a lot bigger step then you think.
Worth it though
I hope you burn for insulting this manga. Where's a dislike button when you need it?
Elfen Lied is among the greatest mangas/animes there are. I literally was glued to the screen the whole night and could not stop reading and crying (straight guy) until I finished it!!!
I wouldn't call it "beautiful" (some seriously messed up stuff happens to anyone you might start to like), but I did enjoy it. I didn't love it, nor did I hate it, I just liked it. I could do without the gore and nudity (the latter obviously just being fanservice), but I just quickly skipped through those. I like the character development; very few of the characters are one-dimensional.
a pretty heart-wrenching read, to be honest. the weak of heart will hate this because of all the detail. but those who can look deeper will enjoy it thoroughly. personally i thought it was a thrilling read.
i guess it's a twisted sort of beauty we're talking about here, what with all the gore, death and mutation mixed together with peaceful, solitary lifestyles, and the return of loved ones from the dead.
but it was good.
simply a beatiful manga, if you get it. if you don't...well you don't.
I CAN AND SHALL READ ELFEN LIED!
Lol.
