Kitoh never bother to explain anything at all.

he just likes to draw some disturbing things... that is all.

that's why his last 2-3 manga are kinda meh, he's not good on drawing normal comics.

I could tell from the title and the contents, even before I read the afterword, that this was based off the Ekranoplan (if you don't know, google it. It's a mind-boggling vehicle from the Cold War)

What bothers me is that it never ever once even mentions the concept of a ground-effect vehicle, even though if you know what they are it's obvious the mechs in this are supposed to be just that. Why not even give passing reference to the one bit of interesting science in this fiction...? I'm slightly baffled.

Thanks goodness it was oneshot so it ended before Kitoh can start killing his characters left and right. The Waterworld idea isnt that new, its origin was quite half-ass, may suggested Kitoh just want an excuse to draw something and his editor just go along with that

Ludicrous premise, as usual in Japanese SF.  Once you've accepted it though, it's kind of a nice little blurb, sort of slice-of-life (with that life happening to involve a fair amount of shooting alien critters).
