Because some depictions in Greek mythology have them with feathers? It really depends on whether it's Greek depiction or Roman I think.
kids this days and their monster girls.
back in my days all we had are octopus and squids.
But would you still go there if you knew that her ancestry was also telling her to kill and eat you? How strong is your sense of self-preservation?
Pretty sure neither of those are new trends.
So, if there were a convenience store near me where a cute girl with sexy gloves and an incredibly alluring voice would hold my hand for ten seconds after giving me my change . . .
I'd shop there. Yup, yup.
Who wouldn't?
To be fair, in some languages mermaids and sirens have no separation. As in, a half-woman half-fish will be called a siren. Warsaw, Poland's capital, has a siren as its symbol, and it has a fish's tail.
In Greece, sirens were half-bird. Romans used the term for half-fish sometimes as well.
Now we call the fish ones "mermaids" and the bird ones "harpy". Mermaids also count into the group of Undines - water creatures.
tl;dr mythology is fucked, ancients to blame
At least it isn't a kappa. I'm sick of those things
TSP, FrostyDynamic thanks. Good to learn something new!
Common misconception actually.

From the oh-so-reputable-source-known-as-Wikipedia...
"Sirens were believed to combine women and birds in various ways. In early Greek art, Sirens were represented as birds with large women's heads, bird feathers and scaly feet..."
Am I the only one bothered by the fact they call her a siren (half women half fish) while she's a harpy (half woman half bird) ?
Shame its only a one shot.
Followed even thought it's a oneshot.
A man can dream right?
That was some great artwork. Looking forward to more from this artist!
