Someone got to explain to me why Zhan Long is so popular and even gets spin offs. It's probably amongst the worst light novels ever.

First off, yeah, the main Zhan Long comic made me become "one of those light novel readers", so if your prejudices are strong because of that go ahead an skip this comment.
Looking at this first chapter here; I have read the web/light novel translation and this has nothing to do with the main story from what I can tell. My advice to everyone is to treat this as a spin-off.
Because where I'm at in the story Xiao Yao is already almost level 70, and nothing like this happened back when he was a level 35. Honestly speaking, this looks like it has all the makings of being a immature harem spin-off with shallow characterizations of the actual characters. That being said, I will remain hopeful that I'm wrong from just my first glace.
(Random note/rant: I admit that the original has a bit of the "harem" element, but only as far as putting a lot of pretty women around him. In actual character and practice Li Xiao Yao is mostly NOT the horribly immature "harem male" lead character. (though even he has moments I wish I could slap him for) The story even goes far enough to point out the reason there are so many women around him is because he treats them with the respect and honor all women deserve. The author is just smart enough to know that a strong male that does that, and doesn't think about women with any lecherous end goals is actually very attractive.)
Is this actually a sequel or just a spin-off of the main Zhan Long series? I mean the webnovel version if there is one. Because i failed to find it on 17k...
