Was reading this for the cute art (plus thought that a scanner-type MC would be interesting) but not so interested in continuing after chapter 5. Trying to depict slavery as a positive is disgusting, ngl.

Actually, slavery is a good thing for the enslaved ones.

It's just that the bad slave-owner is a trope that makes it seem bad.

Slaveries positive points are the following:

Spoiler

I'm not saying that slavery is a practice to be reintroduced into society, as modern societies usually have less problems for the normal citizen of a developed state,

but in primitive societies it has a lot of benefits which are usually overlooked as people tend to display the trope of the bad slave owner/"slave driver" in their fiction.

The whole slave-concept is a farce, anyway, and everyone who read Jean-Jacques Rousseaus "Discourse on Inequality" and "The Social Contract" will agree with a smile on their faces.

You are more or less correct: except you forget to mention the difference between labor slaves and personal slaves. Your points apply to personal slaves, who were high class slaves required to work close to the master (bodyguards, butlers, maids, ...). But labor slaves, working in the mines, fields,... where generally cheap slaves, coming from plunder and war, and the deaths of those were pretty usual.

These high-class slaves were generally nobles or scholar fallen into slavery after a war/debts. So, even if they weren't slaves, they probably would benefice from these points.

In conclusion, slavery wasn't as bad as often represented; but it was still worst than being free. If you want an contempory comparison: prostitute under a pimp: an high-class one would be well treated, a low-class one will be beaten for every error. But even an high class one won't have a so good of a life.

Also, about slavery: there was nearly no slavery in europa during medieval times. It was forbidden in a lot of places

Spoiler

About the manga: Pretty disappointed. I thought it would be a manga where the hero really has a support ability (even though his personality is badly written), but turns out it's again the all-purpose cheat-abilty. At the cliffhanger last chapter, I thought he would remove the poison using medecine (so something that can only be used outside of battle, a field skill), but NOPE. "Final Ultimate Celestial Killing" Magic.

> Learns the entirety of ailments, conditions, medical techniques, etc that were ever invented in that world.
> He himself seems to have no clue how to treat anyone, or what sort of abilities he even has.
> Has to rely on a "skill" to tell him what's the diagnosis, and how to treat the condition.

Rather than "learn" anything, he just increased the abilities of an amorphous 'skill'. 'Can't say I understand what was the point of cramming a month-worth of information into his head when it just went into a automatic system that has nothing to do with his personal capabilities or knowledge.

Shitty isekai, we get it.

I want more catgirl xD.

I'm jut here for the ears.... and kuros fluff.

referencing the cover, seems the party's about to be complete in a chapter or 2

Yeah, except most of these worlds are set in an era where slavery (of some kind, likely debtor, criminal or pow slavery instead of the most well known, American slavery...) Because it isn't like they could afford the price of prison, and the other two options are death or release. Besides, as a story mechanic this makes sense. A person suddenly finds themselves in some random world where they are likely to be betrayed, imprisoned, etc... Having someone who is either bound to you (by magic, or gratitude - anyone who doesn't see what's coming is ... *holds the insults*) or simply willing to follow you faithfully and (semi) unquestioningly makes the world of difference. 'sides, they're Japanese, most of them would release what ever slave they get as soon as they know they won't get killed for it... Finally, and for the millionth time, this/these are NOT written, nor will they be written or even influenced by, a western audience. They're written for the Japanese audience that it comes from. If someone here (of Western culture) doesn't like how a style of manga is written, tough, clearly people in Japan think it is worthy of spending money on, or it would be axed. (I really just need to create a bloody thread with this comment in and link to it...) Not attacking anyone in particular but I am tired of seeing people SEEKING manga to read and whine about.

Well, the problem is that slavery became the comfortable device for the writers to introduce new characters, just like old-school western "meeting in the tavern". When the writer is good, the story is ok, but the opposite has happen, then for some readers it seems like "I didn't bother to think more about setting", "why I should try harder, I'll simply use slave trope" or "everyone uses slavery, so I'll too"

The proper and overpowered way to use healing magic
And now we're at the slaves. So many of these worlds need Ponta and his noble steed Skeleton Knight to bring the manumission.

I thought the level after Z was GT. :|j

We don't talk about that

Wolf man is now called LT Dan.

...who loses his legs in the Vietnam War and is carried to safety by a mentally challenged 7 foot dude.

Oh great another "LOL wouldnt it be funny if we gave the MC seemingly weak abilities that are actually OP?! Like healing or farming or inspecting lolololol!!!!" series.

This isnt funny or creative, a 12 year old can make pretty much any ordinary ability be OP. When I was a teenager i saw this video of a guy trying to be funny by pretending to use magic powers (by waving his hands) to open automated doors at shopping centers and make elevators go up/down. Of course, everyone else in the video was just looking at him like he was retarded. This is like the manga version of that where the author tries to be funny/witty and everyone else is just rolling their eyes at him.

I mean, what next, reincarnated into a hot spring? No, wait, we got that garbage already. Reincarnated into a toilet bowl maybe? Or a pair of panties? Wouldnt that be HILARIOUS guys?!?! Lolololol!!!!

We already have panties, but that was axed. We don't have toilet bowl yet but only time will tell.

But seriously stop criticizing this. If you enjoy it, read it. If you don't enjoy it, don't read it.

I take back my whining about steel coins as currency... Magi Craft Meister has "bronze ore"... (Had to post here due to long debate on steel coins)
After reading description in wn, it have
Spoiler

Let's hope half a year is just as short as one month later passing in less than a page.

My question is how he didn't get assaulted or robbed or evicted since he only had 3 days left to stay there

OMG, I actually spawned a discussion (that isn't people simply ranting at me), that's a first. One thing that I think a lot of people are missing is that this world may not be so much "pre-modern" or "not globalized." There are two main paths a world can take: mechanical technology and magical technology. If a people (can) go down one there is little reason to full pursue the other. Besides, we've only seen one town thus far, and even Japan with their small landmass has wilderness... But, ultimately, if we go based upon other isekai, I doubt there is a reason for Steel being added. Perhaps they are just BSing the system to rebel against the most common system. (Also, the reason western games, or games in general, don't make the comparison to real world is because the player/character isn't literally pulled into another world... If WOW had segregated currencies it is likely that we would see this comparison made in the game, etc.)

This may all be true, but I played first edition D&D and there weren't any steel coins in it so it doesn't explain where they'd be put in a relative value scale.

Krynn was post-apocalypse and poor. They used steel pieces. Iron is could be more plentiful in this world than copper.

I forgot about that, but yeah - steel pieces were introduced in 1e Dragonlance as far as I recall.  Which I guess would mean Margaret Weisman and Laura and Tracy Hickman instead of Gary Gygax.

We dub thee concept manga dilation!

How long is half a year in manga volumes, you say? Too fu**ing long that's what!!

Let's hope half a year is just as short as one month later passing in less than a page.
