Nonono, you don't get it.  She had, as presented, two choices:

1.  Do her music and keep banging her (and the band's) head against the wall forever, unable to ever reach enough audience to make a serious living or be in any way musically influential.  Half-ass it holding things together with part-time jobs that cut into practice time, forever.
2.  Do the music the big label wanted, thus making lots of money but otherwise even worse--her music never reaches anyone.  If you're in it for the music, this is worse than pointless.  There's reasons they call it "selling out", or used to when there was enough non-cynicism that not doing it was even thought of as an option.
 
So instead she waited until she had a huge platform and then performed her music in front of a huge audience, and created a huge controversy that would make sure tons of people would be aware of her and what she did.  Now if she goes back to her band they've got notoriety and can muster big audiences and if their music can deliver they can bust through that wall and have it both ways, and as an added bonus massively piss off those creeper producer types.

The only part I don't get is why she didn't contact her old friend after.  That was a downer.  Meanwhile, neat twist in the extra.

Oh,... Well this was quite an interesting manga and I'm glad I've read it but that ending man, that ending leaves much to be desired.
