Marine Corps Yumi

It seems as of June 20th, Nogami Takeshi has finished all of the Marine Corps Yumi volumes and artwork. On July 5th, the seventh, and I think last, volume was shipped out. Takeshi's work is done, and now all that's left is the English translation to be continued.

All the digital works (and the first 30 English pages) can be found on sai-zen-sen.jp.

renaissance - I read your link, and feel the same.  I spent 22 years in the Corps, and loved it immensely.  At the same time, I hated that there were those who acted like that, and that many got away with their actions and the attitude that brought about those actions.  I can remember, back in the early 1980's (with the takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran fresh in everyone's mind), when I was stationed at Twenty-nine Palms.  We had an Iranian-American, Muslim sergeant in my battalion who was in every sense a poster Marine: totally physically fit, intelligent, fair, impartial, and as squared-away a Marine as I've ever known.  I didn't know him all that well, but I never heard or saw any intolerant words or discriminatory acts against him.  Maybe we were really fortunate in having a well disciplined command at that place and time, but I also think it had to do with not being constantly barraged with racist and religious intolerant propaganda.  I just hope that we, as a nation, can get over being split by intolerant and hateful attitudes, and get to the point of embracing our diverse heritage as Americans.

When I read this manga yesterday, n then read some news today about marine corps.

I posted the foregoing before reading the comments.  

RIP Anastasia Moreno.  You wrote about the Corps with the familiar affection of those who suffered under its' initiation, and your description of Yumi's reaction at the emblem ceremony was spot on.  I wish I had known you personally and could fit my adipose self into my blues to give you a final salute at your obsequies.  I only knew Women Marines through my sister in the early years of my career (I was a grunt in the "male-only infantry" days and then met them at OCS and The Basic School in 1985-86.  We only had a few in Warrant Officer Basic in 1993, three of whom were good friends and fine Marines.  At my last command before retiring, my second-in-command was a female sergeant (I was a CWO2 NBC Defense Officer).  She was short, cute, and extremely professional.  As she was twenty years younger than me, I regarded her as a little sister.  We worked extremely well together, even as I had with several male Marines in the previous nine years as a Warrant Officer.  We had to be careful, as it was a two person section, with mixed genders (it helped that my wife, a former Marine was quite friendly with the sergeant).  

My point is that it was rarely easy for the dedicated, hard-charging female Marine.  I didn't realize this completely (I listened to the official line that claimed there was no gender problems, being in all male units).  Sgt. Charon  Klotz was a fantastic Marine and NBC Defense Specialist who worked her butt off.  

My love and dedication go out to the women of the armed forces, who have to work twice as hard as their male counterparts to get half the appreciation.  The chapter about being a "slut" or a "bitch" slapped me upside the head.  I retired in 2002, and apparently that disgusting and filthy stereotype is still around.  If it is, I'll root for the "bitch" every time.  Guys don't have to put up with that disgusting shit!!  They are either "hard-chargers," normal Marines, or "shitbirds."  Completely unrelated to sex or gender.  Until the advent of the 2016 election, I (in my retired and ivory tower life) thought that garbage was gone.  It definitely "ain't" and I am damned sure willing to spend the next thirty or forty years (barring dementia) of my life to fight that filthy notion.  

As a Japanophile and manga lover, and a retired U.S. Marine, I really love this manga.  Please keep it up, No Group.  It's the kind of story that keeps old goats like me going.

Once a Marine; always a Marine is no joke!

No Group, I saved this manga for a while and read the whole thing tonight.  As a retired jarhead (grunt then NBCD Officer) this was one of the funniest and most nostalgic (I retired in 2002) manga I have read yet.  With a sister and wife who were both Marines, I know quite a bit of what the female experience was in the USMC.  Kudos to the two authors!!!  The three of us went through bootcamp long before the "Crucible," but everything about the Marines rings far more true than any book (and I've read an awful lot of them) written by a non-Marine.  I dragged my wife in to read the bootcamp part, and she laughed a lot, and then got really sentimental (she graduated Parris Island in 1989).  I still have to get my sister (a Spanish linguist crypto Marine) to read this, but I know she's going to love it.  Anastasia Moreno Sensei and Takeshi Nogami Sensei:  Thank you for presenting my beloved Corps to the manga world in all its' sometimes silly, sometimes tawdry, always glorious, and always humorous complexity.  I (59 yrs old) was a Hollywood Marine (MCRD San Diego) and my two girls (wife [51 yrs old] and sister [61 yrs old]) were both (obviously) Parris Island Marines.  The thirty-six years of service between the three of us have given rise to a lot of sea stories, and this manga would fit right in.  I'd give my teeth for us to sit down with the two mangaka, drink some Hibiki or a fantastic Extra Anejo Tequila and trade our sea stories.  Ain't nothing better for old Leathernecks.

Looking forward to more of this in the future.  It rocks!!  I'm eagerly awaiting some NBC Defense stories.

It has me curious that Yumi is actually older than I am, i.e. she's not a Millennial (which is like a 90s kids or specifically those born in late 80s at the earliest). So it seems like that the story is actually set in like 10 years in the past from the current years, so a few years after 9/11, since the team sans Donna is about 19 in the storyline currently; and since Donna has a MBA, she's actually like 6 years senior to the rest of the team lol...

This is a fun series. Anyone else think LInda is Bi-curious?

Sad to see that the original author passed away.

Hope we can get the translations for 79 and upwards soon. 79 in particular seems to have a couple of interesting plot developments.

Hey, thanks for translating what's now become one of my favorite short publications available on this site. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit heartbroken to hear about Mrs. Moreno's passing although I do not know of what cause. It's great knowing all the jargon and terminology without needing the notes, haha. I wish she were still here to continue the project, it told a rare story in the manga universe.

Far far worse series have received successful official published translations, unlike many of them however this series would actually be worth spending cold hard cash on, though were that to happen I'd like to see Anastasia's royalty allocation used for some sort of fund.

And with Chapter 78, we are done with the english translation of "Marine Corps Yumi"

Unfortunately, a few days after Chapter 78 was released on the original mcyumi site, Anastasia Moreno passed away on June 12, 2015. Though the translation effort has been picked up by Dan Kanemitsu, no publication of MC Yumi past Ch.78 has been found as of yet (as far as I know of).

Hopefully some group can pick it up for more translation duties.

Ah there was one detail I missed a few of the pages such as the foot print page or the silky sexies had images but they wouldn't have transferred with the text data likewise a couple of the hyperlinks to relevant pages Anastasia found, I can track down the respective pages if that's ok?

It's a surprisingly fun little series in an ever growing sea of Moe Harems and mind broken teenage melodramatics.

They are still there. I am revising them by adding Moreno's comments subliminal found on each page at the end because I do not think the comics work well without it and reading it off pastebin is kind of a pain. Though the only way I can see to change chapters are to unapprove them, taking them offline. They will be back once the moderatora approve though. Sorry!
