Mate, 20th chapters more is not few. Or if you are saying that whatever the author did to avoid the axe is successful and now he survived at least until 40th chapters, then i can see where your pessimism coming from.

I had meant to speculate on why it seems like people are waiting for the axe, not make a prediction about the manga itself.

I honestly have no idea how long this one is going to continue; my gut sense of "this manga feels the same as other manga that have gotten axed quickly" wouldn't have put it past thirty chapters. But it's clearly going strong, so I must be missing something!

Some manga that get axed after only a few chapters have a particular "feel" to them, like they're all missing the same thing. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, so that's the best explanation I can give, but this manga gives me that same feeling. Maybe other people are also getting that impression?

Well, i'm not feeling the axe at all for sure. Maybe you guys are noticing how the comedy in latest chapters are so few and scarce compared to the first chapter.

If this may help, remember that the first chapter of this manga already has Shonen Battle feeling, what with Iruma successfully doing the Russian Roulette Spell and the battle with Alice.

Do you guys realize the raw is already on the 40th chapter?

I'm sorry but i got the impressions you guys are actually wishing for this to be axed. :(

That was fun. But somehow I still feel like the axe is hanging over this one.

Yeah, I get that. Not to be too insulting to the Japanese audience, but it feels like this story isn't introducing enough story tropes consistently to keep their audiences happy. I'm sure most of us here would more than enjoy a good fantasy slice-of-life without the typical big bad plot or ever-growing harem that these mangas tend to have, but Japan seems to always disagree.

Ah yes, the good old trick of centrifugal redirection, nicely done.

We need MORE

That was fun. But somehow I still feel like the axe is hanging over this one.

I don't think Asmodeus being male and having Alice as his name is strange, because I've already read another manga that the male protagonist also was called Alice. If I'm not wrong it was Alice in the borderland or something.

Maybe Arisu in japanese sounds like a male name for them.

But the eyelashe theory is also good.

COUNTER!!!

Man, i just love counterattacks that had opponent's attack (literally) thrown back at them. XD

Poor Grandpa just got NTR'ed upstaged by his butler. :P

We Ironfist Iruma now? >Tfw you're playing dodgeball but ended up learning frigging kung-fu

asmodeus ALICE?? isn't that a chick name??

I found it strange as well. But if I remember correctly, the name Alice came from a Norse name that was gender neutral(Alice being a kind of Nickname, I think. I'll have to confirm this though, as it's been some time since I last read about it). Maybe they're trying this approach?

Spoiler

tfw it applies to your whole life

Checked the original, it's indeed written as 'Arisu' in katakana.

L and R are interchangeable in japanese, but dunno, maybe the author just gave him a more feminine name.. Maybe there's a specific plot related reason for this...

....Maybe he really is a girl, which I hope he isn't.

If he's a trans guy, that's one helluva step forward for representation in manga where "being trans" isn't a caricatured butt of the joke, but rather, just an aspect of the character.

KONO HITO DE NASHI!

Wow, pretty badass. Also Opera-san has begun to see the light. Now fight Amelie for Iruma!

Dodgeball is truly an underdogs story

Still not sure of Alice and Sarbnock's gender. Beautiful guy or Lady Oscar? Well muscled female or strangely modest bodybuilder(what's with the teat covers)? The background class students have adhered to uniforms.

You know... Alice stated that (he/she) to prepare for the opening day put on a new uniform...

asmodeus ALICE?? isn't that a chick name??

We've actually known the name since chapter 1, page 31.

The character is drawn with a number of expressions and reactions that can be seen as feminine, and also Asmodeus is drawn with lower eyelashes.  Not sure of that importance yet, but two other female characters have the same lower eyelash style.  Amelie, the student council president and the classmate that the owl-looking character keeps flirting with.
Some of the female characters in First Love Memory seem to have that too.

Could be reaching a bit too.

No clues or anything to lean towards for Sabnock, but I'm wondering the same now that you've brought it up.

Since it was likely written different in the original (maybe "Arisu"?) it could just be a translation error...

I mean, with how common the name Alice is, even in Japan, I'm pretty sure the name comes out as Alice (with female connotations).

i think i like tied-hair Iruma more

Huh, what a coincidence, here I was thinking when was this going to update and here it is.

Maybe the author is building it up as an undercover harem manga.
