And yet everyone's reactions are completely non-plussed and barely out of standard. If it's supposed to be comedy I'd be expecting more intense reactions.

I feel like Trans Venus played the entire scenario far better for laughs. It's obvious that this work is trying to take itself somewhat more seriously in comparison while still trying to be somewhat comedic but it really comes off weak. With MC in control of the situation and everyone else just riding along with the flow it just feels disingenuous. Closest we get is the childhood friend feeling uncomfortable about the situation, or so she says before sharing clothes with the guy she likes and inviting him to her room. At the very least it would have been more believable if she instead took some clothes to his room instead, as a show of not wanting to be so close to him in her own private quarters maybe. Her thoughts are realistic but her actions are completely disjointed from said thoughts. It's not even a rushed decision like she can't think about anything, she just caves into his demands constantly.

Considering works like this ongoing comic, I suspect it's very common.

Mhm definitely, she reminds me of how my cousin (who I was super close to at the time) handled it when I came out to her. Accepting but also still dealing with some internalized transphobia? Karin is trying to be supportive and doing a good job of it despite her hangups, she's a good friend.

 

I've always wonder how many GB mangakas are trans. Plenty are fetishy in bad ways (although not a super uncommon outlet when a trans woman is closeted and young), especially in the "trap" genre, but a few of them are surprisingly in tune with the trans zeitgeist. It's something I'm even more aware of now that I've lived through a lot of that myself.

Considering works like this ongoing comic, I suspect it's very common.

It's also subtle, but easy to miss -- Karin's reactions to Minami seem very genuine too. A lot of times the "born female friend" character is either disturbingly into the whole thing, or she's extremely loudly bothered by it. Karin is much more believable, though: she's very bothered by it, but it's more an awkward sorta thing where she doesn't want to hurt Minami's feelings. But she's also openminded to the new experiences, ultimately, and is happy when Minami is happy and when Minami is giving her love/attention. That's some nuanced writing that pretty much is almost unheard of in gender bending fiction, full stop. Makes me think the author is writing from experience.

While the translation is definitely rough and could use a proofreader I'm just incredibly happy that someone has picked up this series. I was starting to fear that we might never get another translated chapter past chapter 2 after Seizon Scans dropped it. So thank you for picking this series up Wafive.
