then this it bad for me. I have a couple of series on my follows list that were only found on Batoto
modify my classic folder view to maomao's custom folders icon
(´• ω •`) ♡ C.U.T.E
N since my List was less than 20, so regarding about batoto it's not effect me that much (=⌒‿‿⌒=)
I'd guess there is at least one attempt, but not against Rishuu. Mild speculation would suggest, that an attempt was actually made at Gyokuyou's life by whomever under the order of Rishuu.
Assuming that the food would pass by tester, I say that the tester feels more than lucky, perhaps alive.
Bruh, that means the food tester prank actually saves Lady Rishuu's life?
Talk about lucky.
There's only one assasination attempt, towards Rishuu.
But Rishuu's dish was mistakenly swapped with Gyokuyou's, so Maomao ended up testing the poisoned dish.
We know that Rishuu's dish is mistakenly swapped because the vegetable dish with jellyfish (that Maomao ate) was supposed to be Rishuu's. The dish uses jellyfish instead of mackerel because she's allergic to mackerel.
So there are 2 assasination attempts right? One targeting Gyokuyou and one targeting Rishuu.
Or Lady Gyokuyou dish only a misdirection since the poison in her meal only numbing the body while Lady Rishuu's meal potentially could kill her.
Is Jinshi the younger-brother prince that's allegedly always sick and doesn't show up for anything? Because that could be why he had a different hairpin in his hair and dishevelled clothes, from changing into them too quickly.
I mean, idk. It seems like a cool sneaky subplot to have the emperor and his younger brother scheming this way. An alleged eunuch who patrols the harem can move more freely than a prince could. And I can't tell if this is supposed to be setting up for a romance later or not. Not that that couldn't be done with a eunuch too lol
It is from Japan, but the setting is ancient China! C:
Detective Maomao is on the case.
My guess: the food taster was the one that switched the dishes.
She disliked Riishu enough to switch the broth (prepared without seafood to accommodate the Virtuous Consort) with the regular dish for everyone else (one with seafood, because delicious).
In the taster’s mind, it was a malicious, but harmless prank (in the sense of; “Don’t be picky! Eat your vegetables.”) Little did she know she was actually poisoning her Consort.
I think the author (maybe) think maomao like cat, there is part jinshi think maomao is cat too (in novel)
Sorry for my bad english
Being nitpicky here, silver is only used to detect poison in this story as far as I know.
The food taster wasn't in plot, she was simply enjoying her unpleasant boss in unpleasant situation, not knowing that she could die.
My guesses:
1 Theory
2.Theory
There's a couple different things going on. According to some spoilers posted by previous commenters:
As for their choice of poison, I guess they were amateurs. Maomao'll have to give them a lengthy lecture on how to properly poison someone's food before they're executed.
Im somewhat confused by this part.
The broth was the one poisoned, not the fish/vegetable appetizer which was implied to have been mixed up. The food taster smiling seems to imply that she was in on the plot, but obviously if the broth had gone to the virtuous consort as the original target, then the food taster would have died from drinking it.
I cant quite get why the food taster was smiling after the virtuous consort ate the appetizer, given that she would have been required to test the poisoned broth afterwards.
Also, i dont get why an assassin would bother with fast acting poisons at a banquet. Obviously, there would be food tasters so the only people you would end up killing would be the food tasters. Even if the food taster was in on it and given an antidote before hand, the food taster would obviously be the prime suspect when the target drops dead after the food taster tastes the food and declares its fine.
The only way i can see it working would be if you managed to poison the target's tableware. While silver purifies, i doubt it can purify every poison out there completely.
Gotta admit, I love the art style for this manga, especially the expressions everyone makes~
That and Maomao's character, a cute poison addict with a very scary temper. I can see why the Mr.(?) Jinshi is so interested in her...
it seem maomao really unaware that she's both S & M
btw maomao's hairstyle like cat ear hnngh ssoo Ccuteee

You should also keep in mind dosage. As there are poisons that even 1 ml or gram can kill you in couple seconds.
So, theoretically speaking to build resistance: you ought to find dosage which wouldn't you kill(something less than even nanolitre), find a way to administer it every day(which would be hard as it would be less than a drop) and pray that every organ survive that dangerous test. And still it would just one poison and that resistance wouldn't help in case of other poison.
You mean the legend of Mithridate?
Very few poisons can be "mithridatized", it basically depends on how the organism metabolizes it. The only recorded info about anyone ever putting it into practice would be particularly crazy snake handlers, and snake poison was almost never used as an assassination tool.
She got a poison-gasm LOL :v
If memory serves me well, then a part of the reason why coffee is of use as a stimulant is due to it being slightly poisonous or being perceived as such by the body.
If you are an avid coffee drinker you'll develop some resistance against it, meaning it'll take larger amounts to get the same effect as before (assuming identical concentration of caffeine, note: this is the life's story of most scientists nowadays).
So tolerance against poison is a thing, though definitely not against every poison and most probably not without some long-term effects.
