Thanks a lot!

Japan's lenient criminal justice system for the win... seriously though, you kill someone and working hard in school counts as making up for it?

I'm no judicial expert, but don't most countries give reduced sentences + jailtime in juvenile prisons for an offense committed by an underaged person? Even if it was murder, as long as it was proved to be manslaughter and not outright murder, extenuating circumstances are usually taken into account.

Well, now that this underwhelming case is over, let's move to the next one!

>the killer is actually you x

>hahaha lol time to escape

>door suddenly locked
>surely we will meet again

wat ?

It's pretty vexing how most cases are revenge stories, while some of them are blown out of proportions or a case of misunderstanding, the rest are situations where you can't help but pity not victims but perpetrators. For example student kengo akechi case, i would never report mikuni of what she did, god knows how many girls that dead guy drugged, raped and blackmailed that's the thrash of society. But even those caused by misunderstanding aren't that easy for us readers, in snow goblin case while 2 of the victims(girls) can be claimed to be innocent, the 3rd wasn't really innocent. His texts caused a lot of people to be depressed, lose their jobs and even commit suicide. One may think that it was because they had weak mind but it still didn't excuse him his behaviour

I wonder why author can't give more cases with killers we can despise, scorn and hate. Even the ones with involvement of puppeter can't really be 'i hate the killer' because again they are done with revenge (justified at that at least in my eyes), look at ghost school building murders.

Sry for ranting...

Late reply, but eh.

That's kind of the point I think. I don't see what's vexing about it. The moral is simply don't be dicks. Being a dick (like the victims) will only create bigger, more vengeful dicks (like the murderers). And nobody's going to be happy in the end.

Having truly despicable killers would not convey the message as well.

I need to ask is this series connected in some way to original or any other series? As in it's a continuation and we can consider that kindaichi experienced those previous cases or it's simply stand alone and it's first time that kindaichi ever tried to solve cases or seen dead bodies?

I think the series is connected to earlier series, since there are references to older cases in Kindaichi R. There are also appearances by characters who were introduced in older cases so I think it's safe to say we consider that the series' are linked, albeit not in a very thorough manner.

Kindaichi is still my all-time favorite manga.  Thank you, contributors!

Finally landed here. I used to rent-to-read Kindaichi from a little rent store back in my high school time, 15 years ago. Now i found it on-line and it feels like heaven already.

Thank you all contributor here.

Chapter 24 is missing for me :c thanks for the uploads, Kindaichi was my childhood manga as strange as that may sound

Yes, the English version will be uploaded in some days!

The Drifting Firefox was sad but a good story anyway, probably my favorite of the Returns series after the Snow Goblin. Which one will be translated next?

Next volume is Akechi case files, so we'll be doing that next. I expect it will be up in 3-4 days from now.

Where is chapter 24?

Thanks for reminding me! I'll have it up ASAP.

Where is chapter 24?

Thanks! It was worth the wait.

The Ghost School Murder Case was interesting. I didn't expect the short-haired girl to be the killer! Oh well, at least her motive behind the murders was somewhat reasonable.

Drifting Firefox should be complete in a week, max. After that will be a volume dedicated to Akechi!

Ghost School Murder Case is complete!

Damn, the last two chapters of the Snow Goblin Case hit me right in the feels. :'( It's a great story arc.

Not gonna read the Ghost School Murder Case arc just yet. I'm gonna wait for the remaining chapters of the Ghost School Murder Case to be scanlatted... then I'll read the whole arc in one go. :D

Here is my theory for the snow goblin case:

You were nearly almost right! Props to you :D

Pretty interesting analysis. Yeah, the mangaka's works do seem to introduce characters at random sometime.

I wonder if the murder in the village 50 years ago was related to the amber that was found in the village. If it's precious somwhere, it would be incentive to kill the entire village. I'd bet that the girl who was rescued from the village was someone's mother who goaded the killer into committing the crimes.

More chapters on the way!

Okay, based on having read a bunch of these mysteries in the past, here's my guess:

Spoiler

Yeah. I think so as well but i also hope that it's wrong too since this trick have been used before in amakusa treasure case and also in Q academy, that dragon box case.

Kindaichi killers seem to be motivated by revenge a lot. (A lot. In the ones translated by Tokyopop a while ago, there were

Spoiler
with revenge motives out of 16.) Even if
Spoiler
isn't the killer, chances are pretty good that whoever is doing it has some particular victim or victims in mind who wronged them in some way (or were perceived to do so — some of those stories with revenge motives ended with Kindaichi revealing to the killer that actually the victim was innocent, just to add some cheap drama at the last minute). The first victim is young, so it's possible the revenge is against the family or something, not the victim personally. But we haven't had enough backstory yet; I'm sure we'll hear more about the village which was killed. Maybe the legend is a hoax which was deliberately created by the ultimate-target-of-revenge to cover up some sort of less-lethal crime; they've done that kind of thing before.
Spoiler

The other motives in those 16 books (plus the others I've read) were all either "I have a loved one who will die if they don't get cash soon so I'd better kill everyone who stands in the way of (inheritance or contest prize)" or "I am being blackmailed and must kill the blackmailer, whoops someone saw me do it better kill them too, oh no someone saw me do that one I guess I have no choice but to kill again, oh darn not again".

(Does anyone else find it creepy, by the way, that in the series translated by Tokyopop,
Spoiler
? (And it was blatantly because
Spoiler
was too useful as a plot device. You can just imagine them talking in the studio:
Spoiler
)
