Waay better than Nishitkoi

Finally finished!I've dropped this before because i read that the end was terrible but this time i've read it without cheering any of the girls.And i have to say that the end was obvious by the final chapters.Also i don't get the hate for this manga from some people . Okay toujo wasn't the chosen one but she dug her own grave with her indecisiveness and she lost a lot of opportunities.Instead tsukasa was stronger than her ,she alwayas took her initiativ in her dates with junei and as it looked like she suited him better.

Overall i had to say it was a pleasant read with a good lot not like nisekoi's but the misunderstandings part that was funny in the beginning got really boring after the first half of the manga .I skipped a few chapters that didn't have any meaning to the plot because of it.Because of this ,the ecchiness and lots of fanservice i couldn't take the plot seriously until the last 30 chapters.

The MC was really a weakling and indecisive but he's depicted more realistically than the mcs in other manga that i've read .Also the fact that he could not choose a girl in the beginning was also from the immaturity of his age-only 15 years.However it become kind of tiring waiting for him to decide for three years. That seemed a bit unrealistic.Also loved the fact that the mc had some opponents for the two main girls .Anyway i don't regret the time i spnt reading and i suggest to everyone that haven't read it yet to give it.It's not melodramatic as KNIM,Suzuka,Fuuka,GE and Domestic na kanojo so it would be an easy read.

I remember reading this way back before there were manga streaming sites, and you had to download whatever manga you wanted to read. I remember following this manga when it was first released by Yanime. I was in middle school back then. At first, I was interested in the story and wished Toujo was the one chosen. I was disappointed with the ending the first time around. However, once the story was completed, I decided to re-read the manga (still middle school), and I began began growing more fond of Nishino.

 

Now, after probably more than 10 years since I've last read it, I decided to pick this up. Being in my mid-20's, this manga is still probably the best cliche romance around (better than KNIM, GE, etc...). This time around, it is as clear as it can be that Nishino is the best ending, and no other ending would've matched this story.

 

People might have wanted Toujo to be the one chosen at the end, because she was the first heroine we met in this story; the heroine with big breast, and long, black hair. However, reading it years later, when I've been through many dates and relationships through high school and college, I've finally understood the author, the real aspect she's put into the story, and why this ending is the decision she made.

 

Outside of the lesson of pursuing your dreams, it showed some real-ness of a relationship. Yes. Toujo was attractive because she shared a similar dream as Junpei in pursuing a career in arts and literature. However, if you just pay attention to the story as a whole, Toujo never really had the guts to actually take a step forward to pursue the relationship Toujo lovers wanted. She was always too hesitant, and kept it all to herself. By the time she confessed, it was too late.

 

If you read the story again, you can see the author wanted Nishino to be the one chosen. She was the one that put an effort to have a relationship. She was the one that was there to slowly leave marks on Junpei's heart that builds it up into love. She was the one that was actually the only one that left memories of love for Junpei. The dates that they've had, the visiting of Junpei's house and interacting with family, the sporadic and exciting trips they've gone though: these are what their love is build from. From start to end, she was Junpei's only love, and the only one that actually commited to him as something more than just a "friend".

 

Junpei was always confused, because, like every high schooler and college student, they don't know the need of balance between physical attraction, mental attraction, and commitment (trust). Satsuki had the physical attraction, but was always never connected mentally (attraction-wise) with Junpei. Toujo had physical and mental attraction, but was never took the steps to have a relationship to build up a love. Relationships require two people to meet half way. Toujo never took a step forward, and that is why it ended up as just a crush and a friend. Nishino was the only one that had all three.

 

It's not easy for a couple to  be back together once they break up. The second time around requires more trust than the first time around, as you begin to hesitate and worry that the relationship may end up back to the point where it last ended.

 

Even before they got together towards the end, you can see their trust build up for each other. The sudden three-day trip, the random trip to the ocean, the small adventures they go through: that's where all the love comes from.

 

For those who hated the ending, just read it again in a few years after you've been through a few relationships. Then you'll understand what a great and well rounded romance manga the author has made.

almost a year has passed since I read this manga in one sit (more likely few days), when I started reading manga, almost ten years ago (downloading the chapters that I wanted to read), well I was just a boy, didn't like this genre at all, but just some years later I started to read more and more manga (started with Naruto jajaja XD) and discover the beauty of this genre, then I watched Amagami and fell in love with the characters, and started to search for more series with this style (Pastel was really great at first) and asked in the net what series were good, and a romance in shonen jump was really weird, so I never gave that chance until last year and then...

this manga is just shit. Glad that i jumped tens of chapters, saved me some time.

This one, I''s and Video Girl Ai are the best mangas in this genre that i've read. The characters all have true personality and they fit the story very very well. 

I don't have too much to say , just that if you're struggling about reading it or not I say that you REALLY SHOULD. Love this , made me cry a few times it's a great story

Yup, that's also why I thought the ending of True Tears was the correct one, although many were shipping the other girl. If based purely on one person needing someone, sure, you can make a case that the losing girl needed the MC more, but based on a mutual relationship where effort and dedication was put in to build love then one can see the best choice.

As of Chapter 17, I'm totally sold on Tsukasa, hands down.

She's one in a billion folks. Instant keeper, no ifs and or buts.

1) if MC screws up, she actually listens to the explanation (and accepts it as long as its honest and not dissembling) without being a yandere pushover!

2) she's totally no BS, no mind games. It's the MC who's playing mind games with himself. When she invites MC over, she is totally calm, rational and sweet. It's the MC who goes berserk and loses his shit--and she doesn't take it as a permanent hit on his personality. 

3) she chose him for his inner qualities -- not some hopeless standard. She has a good sense of people, those who are "real" and not fake.That's pure gold.

4) she knows he's interested in other girls but is mature enough to give him space to make up his own mind -- that's pure fantasy right there; she's a unicorn folks. Never let that go!

they dont make manga like this anymore, the girls actually feel like they have depth to them, i feel bad for aya multiple time throughout the manga but also feel nishinos side.  these days many female characters are so flat and have no real depth.  you can also feel the conflict between dreams and love in this manga.  the old jump, back when they actually serialized manga not completely chock full of fanservice and misunderstandings

I really dislike it that he ended up with nishino but that doesn't take away that the ending and story overall were really well done. So all I can do for now is see the S.S. Toujo off as she sinks to the depths of the ocean were many others lie T.T

I thought Manaka turned into a total loser because there is this stereotype in Japan that if you are a young labor force working at a construction, you are a yankee or a delinquent.

The size is really one of its bad traits, since it drags a lot. Had it been half the size, I think the story wouldn't be all over the place, scattered in a myriad of ecchi filler. If it was actually enjoyable, cute or funny, I wouldn't mind so much the size, but it is basically tits and misunderstandings all the time.

 

The end being garbage is so not true. It is consistent with the rest of the manga, and was hinted several times. The whole matter of it all is shipping wars. I'll explain it but it is a major spoiler.

Basically, Toujou shippers didn't like it since she was the first girl. And Chihiro shippers like it just because it was Chihiro the one chosen, regardless if it made sense or not. In my view, the ending was surprising, but coherent.

 

More spoilers ahead besides the ending:

It was hinted several times how far he goes for Chihiro and how easy it is for him to be with her, and how distant Toujou and him are after joining high school, apart from books and movies. Even though I was somewhat a Chihiro shipper, because I liked how they were together, I didn't actualy think they would end together thanks to the first girl rule in harem manga. Good to know I was wrong. I'm not saying, though, that Chihiro deserved being chosen. Love doesn't work on merit. They just fit each other in their actions so to speak. Toujou had a real chance at the beginning when they were in middle school. They were close, got along well, shared the same interests and thought only on one another. Chihiro was merely a cute face then. He just didn't have the heart to hurt her.

well, that was a journey. a bit much on the "misunderstanding" crap throughout the story but when you look back at it as a whole it really was one of the better love stories portrayed in manga.

though i'd personally go for satsuki, but the canon ship suits the story far better.

I will give you like $15 if you can show me a better shounen romance than this....Thought so.

I don't understand why there's a fan ending in there.  It doesn't do service to the manga IMO.  Toujou was one of my favorite characters so I have no problem with her being Manaka's girl in the end.  What I do have a problem with is how the doujin pretty much shit on the other two girls and turned Manaka into a total dick.

Not trying to speak ill of the alternate fan ending or anything.. But it's pretty cringe-worthy..
