I regret standing here, at the precipice of the end, at the finale of all. Full of regret for not doing things sooner.

Man, it killed DiCaprio.

It would have been cooler if the mangaka had made him look closer to the "real" Robert Blake:

Yes that is how The Haunter of the Dark ends

To think Japan can do good adaptations of Lovecraft, i was sure all they could do was Nyarco-chans, pedo shub-a-niggu-ats, and ass-a-thots, and lets not forget plushy Cthulhu.

Lmao. Pedo black goat

Double-spread Black lightning was pretty cool.

Wow, a Homo Deus reference???

I thought it was a Hot Fuzz reference.

Plush Cthulhu is actually American. Back in 1999 the idea for it came from three New England guys who hung around in tabletop game shops. They later got the Pandemonium store in Harvard Square and Dragon's Lair stores to sell it. I remember its birth because it was a big thing in the Pokethulhu community. I was also one of the first buyers. Gave my sister one and a Plush Nyarlathotep.

Also, you kinda missed what used to be the most famous Japanese adaptation of the Mythos: Iczer. The Iczer magical girls were protectors of the Cthulhin race based on the Spawn of Cthulhu.

When he go to deep web too much.

The black and white format really suits HP Lovecraft's stories. I don't know if the sense of mystery and horror would be the same with color.

The artist has a fantastic sense of scale.

Besides, most people can probably justify it as "it's not anybody I know that we're sacrificing"

A homeless guy here, a hooker there, nobody that anyone will miss.

Humans have an uncanny ability to rationalize a lot of messed up stuff

Same difference.

Also, why are the 'Murricans in Lovecraft's stories always so incredibly stupid? Who in their right mind would join a cult that sacrifices humans just to view some other worlds? They could've just smoked DMT or eaten psilocybin cubensis and gotten the same effect. And I mean both are incredibly readily available in nature, the latter are literally wherever cows are.

There are suicide cults too, so i can imagine a charismatic leader can recruit people ether dumb enought to see or just illusioned.

Pretty funny how common the Necronomicon turns out to be in Lovecraft's stories despite being this supposedly ultra rare tome. Somehow all the world's copies ended up in New England, apparently.

Actually the Necronomicon itself never appears. The full version (that is to say the Kitab Al'Azif written by Abdul Alhazred) is lost, with the presumably only exact copy having been lost in a fire in San Francisco. The Latin fragments by Olaus Wormius are most commonly used in occult circles (at least according to Robert Bloch, whos work was in part recognized as canonical by Lovecraft) and the "Modern English" version by John Dee is nothing more than a few pages which are both incomplete and mistranslated partially. There is a Greek version as well, which first used the title "The Necronomicon" and was, presumably, written by Theodorus Philetas of Constantinople. All of these versions have been used, but they are little more than poor Faksimiles at best and thus relatively common. At least for those whacky New Enland occultists Lovecraft so adored.

I love that this author actually is drawing the horrors, and that they are coming looking great!

It is clearly stated that the haunter whispered them secrets. Secrets of power, one would believe.
Terence McKenna would argue that his machine elves do the same ;>

It is clearly stated that the haunter whispered them secrets. Secrets of power, one would believe. You don't go to the risk of sacrifice other people without cause. Viewing those foreign worlds doesn't seem to need any sacrifices either - how else, after about a century of inactivity, did the protagonist stumble upon it in an active state? I would reason that it was used to aquire further secrets - looking in on ongoing rituals, for example, and taking clues from them for their own spells. Or simply to contact other beings - the haunter itself, too, was called through that jewel, iirc.

I don't know Cultists maybe?
You say that as if paganism and minor-cultism is somehow an American staple.

Promises of wondrous power is what drive the worship of being beyond space and time and mind.

The Necronomicon itself hardly ever appears, copies and translations like this Latin version abound tho.

My thought exacly.

Now if only he was about to be eaten as well, it would be perfect.

Dude looks really like Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic.
