Shame, the translation didn't get any better, even with a new group. The typesetting seems to take even less effort than the last one when comparing both chapter 17's

It probably has to do with Higanbana's twisted sense of friendship. She doesn't really seem to see Marie as a "friend" but rather as a toy and she seems to like to abuse Marie, just for her satisfaction. Marie just takes it, because she's a passive character and can stand the physical abuse as long as she can keep being friends with Higanbana. Higanbana doesn't care either way since it's all just a game to her so she doesn't mind being friendly after she's had her fun. It's a messed up relationship.
if there's something i learned from higurashi, umineko and higanbana is this:
don't overthink the details. "when staring into the abyss, the abyss stares back into you"

Higanbana seems like the type to go over-the-top crazy real easily and Marie as her friend just knows how to make her chill out, even if that means being a punching bag for the super sadistic doll (even Marie's afterlife sucks in terms of physical abuse it seems).
The yokai thing is a rather interesting and refreshing story idea, but all that horrible stuff is just treated too..cartoony... Though I'm at chapter 2 page 16 (nothing insanely special about the page, mind you),the bullying thing isn't insanely hard or horrible (yet) either, just the rape thing (as described in the description) is horrible... Rape is horrible.. But the Cartoony depiction of the teacher as a monster makes it seem too light hearted for someone that takes the subject seriously.. I mean it is eerie how easy it is not to notice that stuff happening rl

i really like this story but im confused about something. Why did mari and Higanbana seem like they were the most hated of enemies, yet after everything was said and then they were drinking tea as if they been friends forever?

I really love this series. All the fun of a lighthearted school life comedy, with all the gut wrenching of a good psychological horror. Right when either of them gets to be a little too much, it's back to the other again.
Nope, the next one is the Princess of Lies, with the Tea Gentleman youkai.

Still, even if we've seen this chapter before, the translation on the new release reads so much better. I'm not one to knock translations, because we're lucky to be reading it at all, but it did kinda feel babelfish'd in the last few chapters.
Cheers to Electro Majutsu and Scans of The Dead, though! Hopefully we can get the next arc? Is the next one the one with that dickhead kid that kills bunnies?

Despite everything this is still a feel good scary story since it has a good resolve in the ending of the arcs.

I feel like my heart and soul was forcibly ripped out and thrown into a washing machine. Except instead of cleansing laundry detergent; someone dumped in mind f*ck, rage, and, depressing liquid.
After the dirty washing someone tossed in a dryer sheet with a bit of cuteness and a bit of shoujo ai, but I still feel dirty... I think I'll go clean myself off with some Yuru Yuri.

@Railander I know, right? I have the raws for the rest of vol. 4, which contains the first half of The Princess of Lies (nice arc IMO), but although I think I could get better at editing and typesetting, my attempts at translating Japanese ended up worse than google translate.
i wonder when we'll have more of it...
