WHERE'S THE NEXT CHAPTER?
Things that happen later.
Since Regis has the sex drive of a vegetable, it's mostly used for comedy. Basically speaking, one may exist, and its portrayal may depend on how the artist here decides to draw it, but nothing too serious happens outside of teasing from other females.
What the hell is with the images before the chapter starts?
What.
Deeper spoiler.
Don't know if this is a proper comparison but this novel is similar to Allison & Lillia in that aspect. The romance is not the primary part of the novel but it really slowly reaches a conclusion in the end. That's the feeling I'm getting from this novel regarding the romance. Talking about Allison & Lillia, now that I think about it, the MC here, Regis, in some ways reminds me of Will, the MC from Allison's part of the novel. Only difference is Will can at least shoot. Altina's thoughts were "has worse swordsmanship than a child and a loser who spends all his money on books" even though he's a soldier lol.
Rather disappointing, but it might still be interesting. I thought they'd be a love interest for each other supporting one another but...
Damn those spoiler tags can be useful, just annoying to access on a mobile device...
I prefer the literal translations myself with small adjustments made for cultural reasons. Like when a pun reads wrong or is less widely known in the "west". Even then it can be noted. It's part of why I personally read manga other then for well, we won't get into that here.
Hell, one manga substituted "mother" and "babysitter" for essentially the same thing, to make it worse it was referring to the actual mother of a character. (Tsukiumi/Minato/Takami after Minato was hospitalized in Sekirei).
Anyways, in my view currently, if your not working with a group in any roll, it's hard to get influence regarding how these things are done. Even such a roll as proofreading is helpful.
I've seen to many projects slow to a crawl due to debates over how something is done, and I'VE only been in scanlation a little over a year. I imagine many others have seen much worse. Even on our own board where we discuss these things it can go back and forth. Example? Altina was over three mo the I think in prep. joshikai was longer, and we've got other projects which have waited even longer then that. Not to mention when you train new people.
That said, I won't disrespect most opinions as long as they are considerate. Hell, I didn't even realize there was an Altina wikia we could have consulted, however I did realize about halfway through trying to find RAWs that there was a LN. ALL the RAWs I found where LN RAWs... Lol.
Anyways, we might revisit this release and make a rerelease, I see at least one thing that may need changing that'd be worth it. (Last two pages seem to need to be swapped).
I take it you are new to this rodeo, and not aware of the futility of arguing for any point in the well-established spectrum of attitudes between those who want loose, figurative translations that roll of the tounge in native language (such as yourself) and those who want a translation that is as close to the original as possible (such as myself, though I'm more lax about it these days).
Neither side is right or wrong; it's just a personal preference.
A side effect of this is that you're going to have to live with the preferences of the translator. And if one translator doesn't like another's translation, naming continuity may indeed be broken.
We can get into the details of the nature of different opinions on the matter and the impracticality of trying to please everyone, but that's the short, fatalistic version of it.
As a general rule, also, it would behoove you to not ever imply that a translator should fix something. There are sometimes exceptions, but even then the comments are probably not the place.
I don't know about anal retentive, but I am indeed not confident enough in my japanese to inflict my own translation onto other readers
whether that makes me a prick or not, I'll leave it to you
translators always have to make a choice between being literal or adaptive. that's particularly true when the language barrier is reinforced by a writing and phonetic clash
I'm sure that Skythewood made their own adaptation.
what's important is that the naming does read agreeably, while respecting both the writing and the intent of the author. hard work indeed.
in that respect, they did a fairly good job.
I did read your notes.
that's why I put this post to try to see if there could be continuity between both translations.
I mean, in the end, you aren't translating because you are addicted to conversing every foreign words in english, but because you wanted to share this japanese manga to a wider english-reading audience, right ?
therefore, looking for ways to make the readership more enthused (and therefore more grateful for the efforts that you put in) can be seen in all those little details, like continuity and cultural adaptation.
despite your grumblings, I see that you are mostly willing to use the naming choosen by Skythewood.
thank you, sincerely.
Due to careless wording, I may have let you wear your ego on your sleeve, open place for easy injuries.
I do apologize for that if that happened, again sincerely.
on a last note, now I remember about Altina full name and the "katoru" ... it's for "quatre"
french word for "four" (or in her case fourth living child of the imperial family)
best regards,
You're remarkably anal-retentive about naming conventions in a series you couldn't hope to translate yourself. "Thanks in advance?" Entitled prick.
You'll note that I found the names in general to be a giant crock of shit, even as I read the original Japanese. There are even notes in here (which I wrote in the script but didn't actually ask to be put in there...glad they were, at any rate) which you really should have read before posting.
Skythewood used those names because they deliberately ignored bits and pieces of the Japanese or applied whichever version of the dual kanji/furigana they felt required the least research or deliberation.
I'll have a go at explaining why much of your list is bullshit.
On another note, the "sparrow/swallow" problem was due to my sleepiness. "Sparrow" is correct.
Wow they finally made it into a manga lets just hope it wont suck, the novel is good and dont let the description turn you away. lets just say its about a princess aiming for the throne and her strategist (The Devil of the Empire).
Huh, so there is already manga adaptation? Huh, cool. Ln seems alright for me, as of now there is already 5 volumes translated if i remember. I'm not surprised that some ppl compare it to alderamin no sky (to ikta) but they are quite different even if they are both strategists.
Actually the author isn't. The MC is here is vastly different than Ikta. Though they are similar in that they're both strategists. This novel is more light-hearted than Alderamin anyway.
This is surprisingly light, as in so little happened in a 50-page chapter. Also, Altina should look younger than this, at least.
btw, I've read up to volume 3 and I remember the maid as the only love interest for the guy, and I don't really remember any fantasy elements besides some special steel.
well all those guys have adapted the work to be more user friendly for memorising what the story tell us.
I went back and read the light novel and found this.
Volume 1 Chapter 1: "She is officially the legitimate daughter of the emperor, but she is considered an illegitimate child by the masses."
The main reason is because
The first person to translate doesn't automatically make them the proper way to do so. If there's more than one way to correctly translate/read something, then those ways are valid.
At the very least, I have heard the name Ulrich before.
for some overview of the series and it's direction (some minor spoilers) :
I doubt that this is a harem
