Indeed, yuri scene is better for my eyes too.
They would have still fallen under the illusion, the only difference being that the one affected would try to kiss a tree or something. Obviously that would be less funny. I mean the entire chapter is written to make the mightiest mages in the kingdom job to a hippo.
>fit in
>have women constantly throw themselves at the MC even though the MC usually has average looks at best and shows zero interest in the girls
>OP powers out of the wazoo
>everyone except badly written villains worshipping the MC
What part of that is fitting in?
Why didnt they just send the girls to do the hippo quest instead then?
why did they try to go at it in a group? if just one person went then the illusion wouldn't have worked right so why did they go in pairs?
I remember when i read this chapter in the WN(Pink Hippo) and i was laughing. Now that i read it with illustrations now im ROFL-ing.
The manga is heavily abridged compared to the web novel what has ridiculously long chapters. Also the story is more out the interactions and politics of the world than the battles.
The author seems to have no sense of pacing whatsoever.
There's a reason that type of character shows up so often in Japanese fiction. It seems to be pretty much how one is expected to behave. Fit in, don't cause offense, go along with the flow and the group, be in general rather passive and compliant, know your place. It just feels so off when people are outright bullying them into doing what they want them to do, try to take advantage of them or make decisions for them nowhere near in their best interest who pretty much have no way of actually forcing any of these things if push came to shove and yet these characters go along with it anyway.
The mustache is not nearly as majestic...needs more work: bushier and curlier.
Oh boy. He's going to wear the whole Havel set and still not fat roll by the end of this.
this Armstrong is so...Armstrong (FMA). just needs more glitter and muscle-flexing
Ok,ok.We get it.He is a bro.
Very much so.
No video game HUDs or levels slapped on everything, the usual isekai crutches. 'Reincarnated with all his convenient knowledge' was still there, but they didn't lay it on very thick. Well done, world outlined, sympathetic protagonist established.
- Born with a very high magic aptitude: Fine, got to give the hero some edge.
- Trained by a master mage over one chapter: Really pushing it, but I'll let it slide because it lets us get out into the world instead of being stuck in magic school for dozens of chapters (if not the entire series).
- Get rich from his master's inheritance: Oh...kay. Maybe having a cushy home base and social connections opens up story options beyond grinding trash mobs?
- Fly to the beach and perfectly recreate Japanese cuisine from scratch: Seriously?
- Oh no! Ancient undead dragon raid boss out of nowhere!: Wut.
- Help us Shota-kun, you're our only hope!: No, wait, stop...
- You facerolled the dragon, you're the coolest!: OH F*** YOU.
I couldn't put my finger on where I'd heard that name before, but seeing it kind of made me annoyed. Now I remember why
This series started out promising. Then it steadily went downhill. It has decent art...although it breaks suspension of disbelief that literally everyone has supermodel level of looks.
MC is a poor noble that has to risk his life to survive. OK. MC becomes the student of a talented magician. Still OK. Then within a few chapters it throws out his sympathetic backstory out by making him insanely rich due to a plot device with no real drawbacks whatsoever. You are supposed to make the reader sympathize and relate to the characters...this has the opposite effect. Like, imagine peter parker, except that he never loses his family/relatives, hes a millionaire, girls throw themselves at him, he just uses his powers every day and never has to worry about anything...theres no way DC/Marvel would ever accept a character like this unless its meant to be a parody. Japanese editors on the hand...
Then it quickly escalates. MC gains a harem nearly instantly with a token male best friend. More girls show up. And this is the part where it jumps the shark...MC is on an airship with his master when it gets conveniently attacked by an ancient dragon. His master oh-so-conveniently can't use the one type of magic that would defeat it. MC goes out and easily defeats it in a few pages. MC is now even richer, famous and gets awarded a title by the king himself.
WTF. This is nothing more than the author's wishfulfillment fantasy. It is just SO BLATANT. You know how comedy series make fun of situations like this where one character goes "damn! we need X to defeat Y!" and another character goes "oh you mean THIS thing i have had the entire time?". You are not meant to do scenarios like this seriously. Practically every chapter is filled with plot devices all conveniently designed to make the MC look awesome. Everyone literally worships the MC. This is the perfect definition of a mary sue.
rant... in order to maintain my sanity and willpower to keep reading this manga...
