Jenny Macy was in love with Brad too, that's why they should have at least shown a grave next to his with the wife ... and Luke could have gotten with the scarred prostitute that he save, and she too was similar to her daughter and grandaughter. At least I'm happy that he lived a long and good life in the end, afterall that's was the real purpose of this journey, for these two brothers to not loose their humanity and live a long and happy life.
I would have liked for the mom to get more screentime, but this manga was too wild west to have feelings in that direction.

That's my problem with it, because in that story Black Horse didn't "died trying to save his tribe way of life", he just died because of his pride and hatred, and he did even worse  : he lost all his warriors and the warriors of the other tribes that joined his forces.

 

In hopeless fights, the only way to "win" is ... to not lose , attacking on conditions and time that favour your chances, etc... a lesson that have been applied since antiquity and by other tribes in the many historical battles that occured between american indians tribes and the us governement.

But there Black Horse didn't even tried to think, despite he knew there were weapons able to destroy them, he knew the field was all open and then in complete favour to his enemy rifles, and he simply went and as a result lost completely : there's none that survive on his side to fight another day on better condition or better terrain or ... , his warriors are all dead or going to die on the "another day" out of the panels.

 

But when one is blind with pride and hatred, there's not much reason left in his brain, it was unavoidable that he would ignore the tribe elder and Luke hints at him being foolishly wasting his tribe warriors effort .

I'm with you.  Wouldn't have caught Iroquois pulling dumb stunts like that.

Not being afraid to die is one thing, but where are your warriors going to come from for the next fight, and the next?

But there have been plenty of people on many continents with that kind of "all for honor" (for whatever value of "honor" applies to their society) approach to battle.  Plenty of them have died, too.  Mind you, there's a case to be made for rules in war, when everyone can agree on them . . . but not IMO for sticking to them when the opponent doesn't even understand them.

Meanwhile, thanks HappyScans for giving us the whole thing (and so fast!).  It's a good self-contained tale; I was expecting it to sort of wander along with incidents in the Wild West for ages before it ever reached a finale, but it stayed pretty tightly written right to the end.
