The number 7 is the dog year and you multiply the number of the human years and you get its actual age.  For example, a dog has lived for 4 years, so you use '7 x 4 = 28', thus a dog is 28 in dog year for its age.  Most dogs can live up to 10 years and would be lucky to get to 15 years (usually for larger dogs).

Yes, I understood what the math was, I was wondering what the validation of seven was, which cirith attempts to explain.
Life span seems a little... Superfluous... To me. Sexual maturity makes more sense.
Later maturity? 18 or 21 (etc) are arbitrary numbers made up by people who didn't really have a baseline. The brain is (currently) said to stop growing/maturing/developing at the age of 21... But science changes all the time, hence the average age of sexual maturity would make more sense (this changes as well, but it is less because the definition changes, or our arbitrary understanding changes).
Anyway, that is my rational.

I don't know where you get seven... Isn't the standard to take when an animal reaches maturity. According to Google it's two (I thought it was three, which would be where the 27 came from... Perhaps it is, the page said do not breed dogs younger than two...) I would be curious as to where you get seven. (Although I have a tendency to forget I posted things... Where am I? Who... Am... I?)

That would imply later maturity=> higher multiplier which makes little sense. Our maturity/their maturity would make more sense. But afaik it is based on our lifespan/their lifespan.

It actually is a nice twist on the Isekai genre and has an interesting set up overall.
