When his mother's younger brother and his wife decide to invite him to live with their family, his life takes a turn. But it is not going to be the normal family life he is imagining for himself. What is the "terrible" secret that lead his parents to break the bonds with his aunt and uncle? What could be the true nature of his cousin, Shion? Let play a game called "Spot the boner"

Spoiler

I know that there's alot of MC's in alot of manga that are dull to an extent in certain ways... but I'm still flabbergasted at how he's still clueless as to what Shion's gender really is even after 102 chapters.

It's not about Shion's physical gender. It's about her true gender.

"The lady... or the tiger?"

Cuando se dignaran a pasarlo a español, ahora que se acabo.

I can finally live my life now that this has ended. This stories did something to my perception on an emotional level. FFFFuuuuucccckkk!

Please add more to this story!!!

well i'm disappointed with the ending. It's probably because i read it for romance but wth it's a freakin love comedy manga  i hope i didn't waste my time reading this.

I remember reading (although I can't for the life of me remember where) was that the author only intended to show a period of these people's lives up to a certain point.

There's an author footnote on the flyleaf of volume 14 of Family Compo. Translating roughly from the French edition as that's what I've got closest to hand:

-----------------------------------------------------

Here's the last volume of Family Compo. After the publication of the last chapter in Allman magazine I received a number of letters from readers saying "The story isn't finished" and "you ought to continue until Masahiko graduates". In fact even if I did keep going the story would always be incomplete because there is no end to the story of a family. The little disappointments never mind the insoluble problems are endless.

FC (Family Compo) is just an extract from the life of  the Wakanaes. I don't want to follow this family forever. What happens after the last chapter I leave up to you, the readers to imagine.

Anyway thank you very much for following Family Compo for the last four years.

 Tsukusa Hojo.

Think of it like a reality series about a family, their lives don't get wrapped up in a nice little bow when the cameras stop rolling, it keeps going on afterwards.

In a way, it is a nice change of pace to read an ending that gives enough closure to one period of their lives and allows the reader the chance to imagine the next.

Interesting.

You know, something occured to me too when I was reading the last pages, and it talks about two strangers meeting, then three, four, and the warmth of family.

Remember at the start of the series, Giba is an orphan.  His mother died when he was young.  His father was seldom around, and dies just before the series starts.  Now, Giba has a family, (all be it an odd one), like he never had before.  He's got and aunt, uncle, cousin, (and possible girlfriend.)  There's Kaoru, and extended family like Sora's family that we see at the end.

Well, I wish it didn't stop at that moment, but I rather enjoyed the ride. Plus, it does go hand to hand with the tone of the manga. Could have been better, but it was a satisfying end.

I also liked the ending.  It wasn't the romantic, "harlequinesque" type of closure that some readers might hope for, but it seemed to be in the same style that all of the manga was written in.  A good ride, and I really enjoyed it.  Thanks, scanlators, for all your hard work.

A bit whiney, aren't we?

Face it, Masahiko should already KNOW that Shion is a girl.  I agree with her.  If he wants her to look at him like a man, and not a friend, then make her WANT to be his woman!  Masahiko is so freaking spineless, (at least up until the last chapter), that it's not funny.

And this ISN'T a tragedy!  (Unless you're a spoiled baby who's mad that it didn't end like you wanted.)

Good to know I'm not the only one who isn't disappointed with this ending.  Actually, I'm pretty happy with it.  Shion's been coy this whole time, but she obviously likes Giba.  Giba manned up in the end (but was kinda forced into it).  Plus we got a decent amount of closure.  All in all, it could have ended in a lot worse of a way.

How convenient for Shion to just make Masahiko 'make her want to be a woman'. After giving Masahiko shit for being indecisive. I am very disappointed with this ending. Damn. Maybe I should have just spoiled myself to the ending and not be disappointed.

Edit: Points for the one who placed the tragedy tag. This truly was tragic.

I hate endings that are not conclusive.

What a tease

Ok, for those of you who are as dense as Masahiko and STILL haven't figured out if Shion is a girl or boy, go back and read Chapter 4, page 2.

Spoiler

If that doesn't explain it for you, then you flunked sex education.

If i want to read this for romance, should i?

Kinda, but if you're looking for an ending where it is obvious about the main characters getting together then don't read

Geh, I know sumthing werd on, whn Yoko meet the unknown man. An accelerated end but a well and nice setting.....

Well at least his girlfriend now ex-girlfriend didn't end up giving herself up for some random guy like what almost happened near the middle of the series if the tomboy girl didn't get involved.  In most manga the writer gets too lazy to give a satisfactory ending to the main character's ex-girlfriend or almost girlfriend that breakoff near the end. Anyway Giba will be much happier with Shion.   Those of you wondering Shion most likely is a girl as she was very bothered with her girlfriend from school kissing Giba.  Shion's grandfather also mentioned it would be nice if Shion and Giba get married a while back  hinting he knows his granddaughter is definitely a girl.  Also someone mentioned Shion got in a fight with her father for using her tampons in early chapters.  Another hint is her parents only refer to Shion as she and her when they were talking about when she was born. Also when Shion wanted to dress up as a man again her mother meaning Giba's uncle was strongly opposed to it as if she is trying to live  as a different gender that how she was born.

oh well.... the ending just an ending. No more characterization left

Though the real reason I liked this manga was because of the artwork. Most gender-bender I've looked at recently show many traps looking cute. Crossing-Dressing in this one had more sex appeal.

Well that just got worse and worse till the end.

Done!

Awesome work. I read that there is a spin off are you going to fo it as well? or moving on to another project?

If i want to read this for romance, should i?

Ask again in just a few chapters.  Not sure yet.

Wait . . . that was the end?!

Ugh. Is this it? At least Masahiko is true with his feelings, and it seems like Shion's willing to give him a chance.

In all honesty though, this "still unclear sex/gender" ending fits perfectly with how the manga went since the beginning. It revolves around gender ambiguity and the feeling of wanting to be different and stuck with the wrong "body". It kind of opens my mindset regarding real people with the same way of thinking like Shion and the rest. Like, everything is never clear, and it shows in the ending. Still leave me unsatisfied tho..
