Description: | "You can do anything if you put your mind to it." That is how Mio was raised... if you could call it that... by her rather lazy guardian Reki. Born on an island she has never been off of, Mio grows bored of her everyday life... That is until Sarah comes along. Sarah is a member of an organization that explores and manages many "Homes", islands much like Mio's. For Mio this is her ticket to adventure, excitement and the most interesting thing of all... school! But is the school ready for Mio? |

@Souldrake
Thanks for Manga-Heaven's continued work on this manga.
There is something you don't know and will not find out until volume 7 or so.
I have a question: Is Mio just an orphan or there is something else we still don't know? Her character's profile had some ominous (?) mixed in.
The art is very sharp and shonen, which fits perfectly. Battle sequences also have a great edge to them as the pulse-pounding action spreads nicely across several pages. But in terms of originality, it's not something we haven't seen before: super-powered protagonist, cold intellectual friend, jealous lovers, hot-headed teachers... but the brevity of it all really lends an adventurous spirit that helps it to overlook all of the cliches. The super powers also fit nicely in this optimistic story, where a strong spirit and will is key to unlocking one's potential, but the name "Jinx" is sort of odd since it's associated with bad luck. I guess we're just running out of different words to use to name abilities.
Aside from some cliches and stereotypes used, though, Espirit is an excellent manga to pick up, although it is quite a shame it only goes to 8 volumes.
First Impressions: 4/5
