Its funny because the author obviously never fenced before.

Sometimes I really hate this kind of manga where there are sooo many jerks around the MC, but the butt justify it mmm...
I'd really like to see a HEMA themed manga at some point, German or Italian longsword specifically.
The rules have an interesting twist on other sword combat sports in that just hitting your opponent isn't worth a point, you have to hit and withdraw without being hit in return. The logic is that there are virtually no instant kill blows with a sword short of severing the spinal cord as even an opponent who has been thrust clean through the heart will still be alive and functional long enough to delivery a similarly lethal blow. Not to mention you are also considered to be armoured as any combatant would be.
You are also allowed to make physical contact such as grappling.
That aside I look forward to more girls in tight uniforms.
I figure she adheres to some spartan ideal of "stand up for yourself or you're not worth helping." She seems to have some issues to sort out from the looks of it.
Obviously she is a chuunibyou and was imagining she was fighting some monsters with a sword. Fencing is just an alibi

Well, she said it: "the person getting picked on is also at fault". It's an annoying message that seems to appear in several manga, but it could also be a value she herself holds personal because of her past experiences. Time will tell if the story condones or condemns it.

Wait, French isn't shout like that in fencing ? And here I thought French fencing is like Japan kendo that shout every attack we make.
Maybe the author love both Kendo and Fencing while don't know much about real French Fencing.
By the way, for Japanese, be able to talk in English is real cool but able to talk in French is supper cool, so maybe the Author just try to get Japanese reader attention.

I used to fence a bit in college (intramurals, not team level or anything like that), so at first I was kind of happy to see a fencing manga, but WTF was Alice doing in the park? Because that was not so much "Fencing practice," but more like "crazy lady jumping around with a rapier and swinging it like a n00b, begging to get booted out of the Salle."
The "hey, we're in the olympics now" flash-forward at the beginning got my hopes up that this would be a serious sports manga, but I guess it's not so much about fencing, but more of a girl bonding story with "Fencing Stuff" as a backdrop. Oh well. Sucks for me.
I recommend Attaque. It's a Korean webtoon that's not very long but very well done.
it's new, plus seems interesting. I'll follow it to see how it goes, because I haven't seen or read any manga about fencing.

This really caught my attention. It's good that the author showcased that this will not be a realistic sports manga in the first chapter with that 5m+ jump and a stab with a pointy enough stick that somehow produced only a blunt force.
Don't get me wrong I like both realistic and unrealistic, I just like to know early on.
