geez... getting hot from holding hands... that just feels like ....i'm ancient
Because the odds are so low when most of your prospective partners aren't interested in your gender to start with. And that's before we start bringing in social stigma and the fact that by definition, almost all the protagonists are teenagers who feel isolated because they're different. Yuri is like shoujo with bigger risks and zero chance of the heroine being socially comfortable.
Almost the only exception to all that is Morishima Akiko, who has made a career out of gorgeously fluffy art and absolute, stubborn refusal to have her characters give a fuck about any of the problems associated with gayness. Some people think her stuff is shallow, but I think she's just writing the change she wants; anyway, her stuff is always cheerful and refreshing.
That's when you do escapism, i.e. go to bato.to and read shit you don't really care about.
Just like half of it, I guess that is a continuation of the tradition, most of the old-school yuri mangas that I have seen are full of tragedy and sadness; most them were not particularly happy stories.
