Somehow I think Edna is a little cruel;

although it helps the young master to grow and develope a stronger personality, she should at least lead Katie onto the "right path" so that she[Katie] is able to comprehend his behaviour as good as she[Edna] can...

Spoiler

I mean, based on the flower on the grave I don't think the "friend"
Spoiler

will show up any time soon except in flashbacks.

So... because of the fact they are not mentioning the gender of her friend.. I think we can say it's a higher possibility of it being female rather than male. I do like that Katie is slowly beginning to awake "improper feelings" as a maid. Now it's only a matter of time before she becomes Alice from "Duke of Death and his Black Maid" (okay no probably never gonna happen like that... but still it would be hilarious to see Johann have a mental breakdown from a straight forward assault of ecchi proportions)

Spoiler

He sure does love "milk". ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

This kid's appearence kinda gives me the vibe of Johann Liebert for some reason

Well there is always the magical power of time skip LOL. I have the same thoughts regarding Dirk, either he's a part of a tragic backstory or future rival. However I will say 6 years is only a huge gap in the teenage years. In 8-10 years it won't be a big deal, the tricky part is not getting remembered as a kid. Even if they're both adults if she remembers him as "the cute kid I used to look after" or "the little brother I never had" etc. that will be the towering wall to climb, so in all likelihood he'll have to surprise/charm her with his hidden maturity and earnestness before then.

Yeah.  And unfortunately for him, it's pretty well hidden.

So Bocchan is 12 [soon to be 13] and Kathy is 18. Thats an almost a 6 year gap, like wow! If she didn't stop adventuring because her childhood friend Dirk died, then I assume he must appear sooner or later as a love rival. Otherwise I see no other way to overcome this hug age gap in terms of romance.

The idea behind this sort of character seems to be that of course, she couldn't possibly like anything but boys if she hadn't had some traumatic experience that gave her an aversion.

As a het guy, I find this bizarre.  I like girls, and I really don't think it has anything to do with my traumatic youthful experiences with boys (not that I didn't have any--schoolboys are little bastards.  Just, pretty sure that's not what being into girls is about).

I would have been mad if they kept her like that but it seems in the follow up chapters they decided it was a bad idea (with good reason) to keep her that way. Incidentally I'm totally okay with her using the MC and the girl as a form of entertainment (always okay with the lesbian character toying with the MC's feelings for the female lead to provoke reactions. I'm looking at *YOU* Tomoyo-chan from CCS XD). I just don't like abject misogyny or misandry by a character UNLESS it's the actual plot. I know it happens occasionally but people try to make it into a complete archetype which just makes me shake my head since it's a moment of "....so do you actually not know any homosexuals in real life or something?".

I know he's just acting like that because of his age, but...am I the only one who just wants to murder that kid sometimes?

Just bop him on the head and bask in the schadenfreude. Less insane, and repeatable.

Murder may be a bit too much but... yeah, he can be pretty annoying sometimes, let's just hope he grows out of it ^^

It's extremely common in manga- and tbh, I'm done with it. Not only does it not feel natural but it just.... idk, feels very degrading to everyone involved. It's like they're they're throwing it in for diversity or to capture a certain audience, but they have no idea how to handle this properly

I don't think it's for diversity, as a rule.  It's a form of fanservice.  They throw it in because the shounen demographic tends to find the occasional lesbian titillating, but often has its pride hurt by the notion that any girl could inherently not like guys, so to have it both ways they have the "It's not that you guys aren't attractive, she just had a bad experience with a bad apple.  Now, vanity salved, go back to checking out the girl hitting on the girl.  Woo!"

just curious, what is their age difference, I am aware that katie is 18 years old but how old is the kid

12-13 IIRC

Its cute, but I feel like its a series of repetition

1. the kid blabs some shit to her

2. She gets sad

3. He apologizes in the most tsundere way. Regardless every manga has its flaws and Strong points. I think its kute

Glad I let this simmer. I feel u Sensei lol

Oh and they always ALWAYS have to HATE all men. (i'm sorry i have more lesbian friends than I do straight female friends tyvm)

You know, I never really understood why characters get so randy from a pose, mannerism, or virtue, I mean, I've never talked to a nice woman and thought "OMG your humility and kindness are really turning me on!" now if you showed me a busty pinup model wearing sexy lingerie then I could understand it, but this boner worthy personality stuff is just not making sense to me.

On another note, who needs sword lessons when you can become A F***ING MAGE!!

Manga Lesbians are so irritating, It's ok when they hit on women, but if men do it, they're disgusting monkeys you need to protect the "angels" from.

PLAYER 2 ENTERS THE FRAY

That;s some steep competition Young Master. Yuri Sensei has my vote....
