It's been so long that I can't remember the entire plot, but I'm pretty sure the Gender Bender tag is because the MC gets mistaken as a girl for a while.  Plus, it's either stated or implied that he is the reincarnation of a woman who died tragically, so there's that.  To me, that doesn't really seem worthy of a gender bender tag, but I don't make the rules for that.

Seems gender bender in theory to me, but if it's such a trivial and short-lived part of the manga, maybe the tag isn't appropriate.

Updaaaaate! *-*

Thanks a ton FS!

<>Gender-Bender Tag?<>

Can someone tell me what the Gender-Bender tag on this is for, I mean is there cross dressing or does someones gender change?

Can people please stop calling 1001 Knights a BL/yaoi/shounen ai manga because IT'S NOT! 1001 Knights is published in Monthly Asuka which is a shoujo magazine, the magazine uses shounen ai baits to attract people to it so I understand if you want to call it BL but it's not! If it was a Bl manga it would be published in a BL magazine like how other yaoi manga's are (sekaii hatsukoi, junjou romantica, etc.)

I found out that chapters 22 and 23 are on mangago site: http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/1001/

well, otakumole.ch got ch. 24-32 translated... however in lower quality, so I re-read all chapters here ^-^

But they were not scanlated by the Fallen Syndacate group right?

*quite "loyal" to groups ^^*

Thanks for the update!

Haha, I came back to catch up on a few missed chapters, and got thrown off guard by the practically naked guy and random kiss. And guys fighting over naito.I literally stopped reading mid chapter just to check the tags again. I totally forgot this as shounen Ai. xD

Thanks for the update!

It took a while to really get to anything and it's kind of a mess of a story, but I really like it so far!

I, personally, like "adventure" BL.  Which is just, usually, normal adventure stories with the ho yay cranked up to eleven.  (With another TV Tropes link, because, gee, I'd hate for anyone to get any work done.)

The sun was up when I clicked that link. It's up right now too, but now it's morning... TV Tropes will ruin productivity. Q_Q

Hmm. I feel like I'm doomed for actually shipping Yuki x Naito. Then again I have horrible intuition so BANZAI \o/ (for hope).

I really like Sugisaki's artwork...but sometimes there are things that just make me giggle 'cuz I think they look silly. Naito's eyes....painted easter eggs?

This is pretty interesting, the only problem I have with it is that it's quite fast paced and sort of jumpy and it also needs more context. If it was slowed down I'd find it a lot more understandable. I will keep going with this manga though and I hope that more updates will come.

didn't check the tag and was surprised about the kiss(if it happened)??? Hope there's nothing of that sort

I, personally, like "adventure" BL.  Which is just, usually, normal adventure stories with the ho yay cranked up to eleven.  (With another TV Tropes link, because, gee, I'd hate for anyone to get any work done.)  They tend to defy the stereotypes a bit - like Yasashii Ryuu no Koroshikata, Jinjuu Houretsuden, or Silver Diamond, for example.

I may, personally, be a "rotten woman," but I really prefer the ships the creators sail.  It's usually bound for better waters and less icebergs.  As such, though, that means if I want BL ships, I need to read BL works. ;)

I just have an issue with people commenting in a work without commenting about the work, really, like "Ew, missed the tag!"

...Which, come to think of it, I'm doing.  Errr.....

ON TOPIC - I am liking this, like I like most of this mangaka's works, but I do have the issue with it, that again, I have with most of her works: plotting & pacing.  A lot of the time, what is going on, and why, gets a little lost.  This happened in DNAngel, Lagoon Engine, Brain Powerd, & Candidate for Goddess.  <sigh>  I like her artwork, though, so I read on and catch what she's trying to do after a chapter or two.

Well, I can get behind sarcastic comments with regards to the author, at least.

Anyway, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to step on such a land-mine with my off-hand comments. Of course, the quip about homophobia was in regards to the large number of people going "eww, missed the shounen-ai tag" and the like. I recognize that many works of the genre--and a lot of it's fandom--have certain wide-spread undesirable tendancies, and that it's easy to associate these qualms with terms that in fact describe the whole gamut of the literature, good and bad... especially in casual conversation, such as here.

And so, if it's my misunderstanding, of course, I do apologize. In fact, I'd much prefer that to be the case.

I'm mostly exempt from any social expectation of liking BL (Annoyance at this expectation seems to be a large part of your displeasure towards me?) on account of being a bearded man in his mid-twenties. Not that I can't understand the problem, mind, there are parallels. I can't say male geeks don't have certain expectations--I try to hang out with -relatively- classy folks, so I get less of it, but still.

However... Not to stick my foot back in my mouth, or anything, but on the flip-side, I still feel it's a bit extreme to say "crap, missed the shounen-ai tag" just because you 'don't especially like' a genre--it's definitely an expression of distaste. As aforementioned, I may have misidentified the target of that distaste, but I hope people understand where I'm coming from.

S'all good, I wasn't offended or took it personally at all lol.

As for the dislike towards BL genre, I've actually seen worse comments about it - people outright saying how they're disgusted by it, how wrong it is, how sick it is etc. so this didn't really take the cake. I've also seen a lot of hate comments on a lot of fanarts of various hetero pairings posted by yaoi fangirls, so really, it goes both way. I understand that it may have rubbed you the wrong way but I suppose, people have the equal right to express their dislike towards something as much as they have the right to express their like. Not that blatant hate and bashing is justified or nice to see, by all means, but it's the Internet and such things are simply a common occurrence.

...

Or maybe it's because I'm older (in my twenties) and stuff like that simply doesn't cut it for me anymore. Sorry for the long post, but I just felt the need to clarify that lol. Bottom line is - I'm aware that some people don't read BL because they are truly weirded out or disgusted by the prospect of it but there are also those who don't read it because they simply don't find it interesting or entertaining enough.

And this is Yukiru Sugisaki we're talking about. That alone should've been a sign.

Or maybe it's just, you know, not our thing? Like how you tell a Kouta Hirano Hellsing fan to watch this 'great series about vampires', and it turns out to be Twilight?

Or like how most slash fans turn up their noses at EVERY SINGLE CANON HETERO PAIRING for their fandoms like it was a Muslim stand-up comic joking about the Holocaust right inside of Tel Aviv?

^ This.

Just because someone is not thrilled and all over yaoi genre/fandom, doesn't mean they're homophobic. Hell, yaoi has become so popular today that most fangirls look at you oddly if you're NOT a yaoi fangirl. If anything, I feel more like there's this heterophobia out there instead because heaven forbid you ship straight pairings in fandoms like Hetalia for example. Besides, I've seen some hardcore fujoshis go all 'eww' at the prospect of gay relationships that don't involve just pretty boys and Apollo-like bodies. So that baffles me quite much, as well. Either you like BL or you don't. You don't just exclude non-attractive guys like that and consider it 'yucky'. It's no better than being homophobic in that regard.

Personally, just like the quoted comment above, I'm just not into it. Not because I am homophobic and disgusted by it or anything like that. I just don't find it interesting and it doesn't make me feel anything much. I've given some BL manga a try just to see what all the fuss was about but I just didn't see the appeal and why so many fangirls swore it was the most awesome, 'purest form of love'. For me, it was like reading any other smutty and cliched shoujo out there, except both characters had penises. If you also look at it from a psychological point of view - there's always a more butch and dominant half involved and a more submissive and feminine one (or the popular seme/uke dynamic) so again - I wonder, how's it any different from any other smutty shoujo out there sans different reproductive parts. *shrugs*

It always ends like that. TV tropes is the only thing I know that beats wikipedia for being a Black Hole of Productivity.

In other news, my recollection of D.N. Angel is that the straight relationships gave me the hives so much that I find it kind of perplexing that the gay overtones was what some people were bothered by. Even considering people's homophobia ¬_¬ ( Which seems to be out in force today... )

Ahhh, I like this a lot!

Followed~  UvU

Thanks for the half hour TV trope trip. I woke up at heel face turn.

1001 (K)nights, get it

You're suprised? From the mangaka of DNAngel, which got to the point it needed a separate page for its Ho Yay? Oh, you poor, innocent soul.

Thanks for the half hour TV trope trip. I woke up at heel face turn.
