Fuck that left a bitter taste in my mouth
There's a somewhat intense discussion going on over at Dynasty Scans. The consensus is that this author seems to have spent her very last goodwill on Renai Manga and has only been able to write about manipulative, unhappy people ever since. Although, by the author's own rather angsty standards, the "Moratorium" pair did strike me as being less despicable and more convincing than most. They could totally have their happy ending as long as Itsuki succeeds in her quest to gently mindbreak Mao into homosexuality (lol). The girl's already desperately in love, or utterly codependent, same difference really she just can't get over the girl-on-girl sex part. She's about to break, go for it Itsuki!
Disclaimer: that's a really bad idea in real life. People's sexuality should not be subject to "fixing" by outsiders, even for the sake of One True Pairings and Holy Yuri. Ask Amy recommends a dose of "moving on," a prescription regime of "go have healthy relationships with healthy people instead," and a 12-course serving of "please don't hurt the people you love, m'kay?"

I think the title is more likely a reference to Dante's Divine Comedy, where the 9th and deepest circle of hell, reserved for traitors like Judas, Brutus, and Lucifer himself, is a lake of ice called Cocytus (itself named after the River of Lamentation in Hades). Those who betray their fellows are forever entombed in ice, unable to feel the warmth or joy of human companionship. The parallels are pretty clear.
Oh gawsh the art is too beautiful.... And the recent chapter... For some reason i'm really into it.

After reading the ending, I have to say that you are right; that inconclusive and bittersweet-ish ending fitted well with the overall mood of the story but I am a true fan of conclusive and, if posible, happy endings.
Thanks to the staff of Yuri Project for this manga, I don't know if the rest of the volume has been already been translated as the name mentioned below in the comments sound vaguely familiar but if not I would like to see more of this author.
This story probably would have been better with a 3rd chapter to actually wrap stuff up.
I'm going to imagine they went to school the next day and she tells them to stop bullying her girlfriend.
There's one more story in this tankobon - Moratorium. It's 3 chapters long, and has the same mood as Cocytus. Keep your eyes peeled for it as somebody is bound to translate it.
(By the way, 'Moratorium' has an additional meaning in Japanese - period in life when a person is 'postponing' his social obligations. Student lifestyle is the prime example of this.)

If someone scribbled all over my locker like that, I would probably just leave it. I didn't do it and it doesn't physically hurt me so why should I take the extra effort and clean it up?
Also, is that really the end?

'was pretty cute, though. You can't expect too much development with such a short story anyway.
