The manga started in a way that implied that there would be lots of character development and growth. It did not continue that way, and since all of the characters are annoying, I don't recommend it.

the dad sucks. You can comfort a woman without banging her. The brother is an idiot, his half sister is bitchy af. Chiyoko.....our chiyoko, it makes sense for her to be as she is, but I do feel bad about the whole won't hold your mom's hand on her deathbed thing. So it was just a coincidence that both girls are named chiyoko, they don't share any blood?

how can this end in a satisfactory way? Can it?

Just... Ugh. What a miserable story. Sometimes, I talk about how you can feel an author's love and affection for their characters shining through the page, and how endearing that is, how energising I find it. Here's a perfect example of the opposite: when it feels as if the author has no empathy for their characters whatsoever, and treats them as little more than props to be dragged around a script, with little regard for how it would actually feel to be in their places.

I hate the dad. The children (all 3) suffer because of him. And what a poor woman Chiyoko 's mother was.... I don't like how this story is evolving

He cheated, and then he left, and severed communication. All just the way she thought it was. And nobody told her jack about shit, nothing different there. The only thing different is, after all that crap he got sick. Certainly I'm sorry that happened to him--he's just a dick, not someone I'd wish early Alzheimer's on--but it doesn't change anything else. Doesn't make him somehow all great or even OK. Sure, maybe if he hadn't got sick he might have come by sometime years later and told his daughter he was sorry for fucking up her and her mother's life. Or, maybe he wouldn't have.

That said, it's great if a rush of pity (and relief--I can't believe all this time it didn't occur to anyone that she might want to know if her father was alive or dead!) causes her to think it's not worth letting the resentment control her any more. But she does have something to be resentful about, this did not make her resentment unjustified, and all these people patronizing her made it worse for years and years by keeping her in the fucking dark so they should be fucking apologizing not talking down to her like they have a clue what it's like to be in her shoes.

Pathos != innocence.

Ah yeah, I didn't mean that he's innocent. He's still an asshole, just a little bit better.

Looks like at least the dad is better than what the previous chapters paints him to be.

I still think cheating is bad, but at least he didn't hide it from his wife. Moreover, it's not like he doesn't want to take responsibility, but he can't.

Man, the first couple of pages of chapter 5 sum up everything I hate about this story.
"Hold this."
"Okay. What is it?"
"I'm not telling you."
"Uh..."
"Hey! Don't hold it like that! You'll ruin it!"

I don't know, maybe the last chapter (I assume chapter 6 will be the end, if it's a 1-volume series) will turn things around, but so far, this story is all of josei manga's worst habits concentrated into one.

Hmm I wouldn't say this particular comment section needs reporting -- I've seen far far worse. Most comments here are fine, and I'm sure the lack of spoilers for those two comments was just due to a minor oversight. The reason I brought this up was because I thought it wouldn't hurt to politely request the concerned people to edit their comments accordingly!
