Description: | Takatou Masaki is the second youngest of four sons, and seemingly a delinquent by nature. His hot temper has put a wedge between himself and his strict father, gotten him kicked out of one school, and tossed him at a school notoriously horrible for the one thing he's truly good at, basketball. A chance encounter with the willful Yuuki Kanako may serve as a catalyst for change, as the indefinable connection she feels with him draws them together... Won Shogakukan Manga Award in 1988. |

Story build up and character interaction felt natural without too many cliche over the top romance.
I personally prefer this way of storytelling when its a smooth transition with proper breathing room. It shows a little more of their lifestyle and personality growing up without too much emphasis that its cluster all in one go. Romance isn't the sole focus (WOOT! Basketball manga; shounen passion and dreams), nor is the other genre just a side focus, they actually mention technicalities of basketball
If you don't mind old school style, its definitely recommend for people that something a little more down to earth.
Hahaha though it's true that girls are weird/complicated to understand >.>
Anyway, it ages pretty well. I like the characters, and the "rebel without a cause" angst is nicely done. A bit heavy maybe, but it never feels like it's laid on with a trowel. Not so far anyway--seems like this is the mangaka who did "Mars". A lot of people really love "Mars", and I loved it at the beginning, but for me it went over the top later on. I hope this one doesn't. But so far, I'm liking it quite a bit.
