Honestly, all fairy tales have some romance (although sometimes creepy), so why wouldn't a deviation have one?

Dorothy is from Kansas, so she's technically a foreign exchange student living in a host family's home. Returning to Kansas is as easy as making some money, getting a passport, and catching a plane back to Wichita.
She wouldn't be integrated into Korean society when her home is an ocean away. Probably a missing child report is active in the US. Just a trip to the embassy is all that's really needed, now that I think about it...
Well, until then, this wayward daughter must simply carry on.
Just a stab in the dark, but in diluting the boundary between real and fairy tale, it seems just as logical that the fairy tales become integrated into Korean society as Korean society integrates into fairy tales.
