God, that was a bag of feels. A very dirty, bitter bag of stepped-on feels.

The bad old days of Japan shown probably 1929-1940 period. People lived in poverty and just got by. It shows historical ugly side of life.
'The Inferno in Bottles' - People traveled in boats, air travel was exclusive for wealthy.
The 'Sen' money was used until early 1950's, 1 Yen was 100 Sen.
This work is pretty complex, showing human desires around structured society of the time.
