Type: Manga (Japanese)

Description: Billy Bat is a comic-in-a-comic and the real protagonist is a Japanese-American artist named Kevin Yamagata who draws Billy Bat for "Marble Comics".

Shortly after they transition to the artist in his studio with his assistant, two actual detectives, who look like Laurel and Hardy in Dick Tracy era suits and trench coats, knock on the door and appropriate Kevin's room for the purpose of conducting surveillance on a room in an adjacent building. One of the detectives, the skinny “Laurel”, sees Kevin's work and it turns out he's a Billy Bat fan. The other chubby "Hardy" detective picks up a page and says that the characters look familiar and accuses Kevin of translating an old "Jap" comic.

As Hardy remembers the comic he thinks Kevin is ripping off, we make another Urasawaesque time jump to 1949 Tokyo...

For those that want to read the whole thing, volume 6 can be read online downloaded in multiple formats here. The rest of the series from chapter 137 on wards can be read online here. I normally don't advocate for manga sites other than Batoto, but his is one of my favorite series and I hope people read it and enjoy it as much as I did.

This manga has been finished for some time now, you can read the rest of the chapters over on Mangastreams website.

come on Mangabandits!

where are you?

continue!

It's already chapter 157 at MMO No sign of this comic to reach it's end

just give him a damn phone already..

I bet that last guy wishes he'd just given Devive a phone.

Aaand I caught up!
Wow.
Urasawa is a genius.

I missed Kevin Yamagata..

plot progressiooooooon!!

when's kevin #1 gonna show up??

just give him a damn phone already..

I just started reading this after loving Monster and 20th Century boys.

What the hell is going on?  I don't understand anything. It went from post-war Japan to the moon and then to Palestine and Jesus in like 5 chapters. I love this series.

thank you for the update!

Thank you mangabandits !!

It was once again awesome to read it :D

yay I want to see the other kevin again!

Damn this manga is so good! i can't believe that i read it in one go! fml

$4.59 for a burger in NYC? They must be in the past...

Jackie-chan (lol)

Ahaha, I knew it'd take him there. Oooh this is going to be sweet.

the bat is making a team of not-so-badass people

They are badass in their own right.

Hah, in the same chapter Timmy's name appears on Billy Bat's cover next to Kevin's, I only just noticed Naoki Urasawa was also helped by Takashi Nagasaki in writing Billy Bat... Talk about meta, huh? There's no way this isn't intentional.

Aw fuck he's still alive? I knew it couldn't be the end of him.

The new Kevin is okay but I'd always enjoyed the original Kevin more, since we spent far more time getting to understand him.

Please don't tell me he's artificially alive either like they just have his brain or some shit.

hell yeah brothahhhh

the bat is making a team of not-so-badass people

My guess is that Timmy isn't lying. He just hears the other bat. The one talking to Kevin Goodman and now Jackie Momochi is the one that also talked to Yamagata.

How their motives differ is still a mystery, but I'm guessing it won't be as simple as "the good bat tries to warn them so they can stop it from happening." That wouldn't be really Urasawa's style. Of course, it's still not known which one of them is the one that "shouldn't be trusted".

This also means they will finally start delving into the black bat / white bat issue.

Twin Freedom Towers...2001...Attack by terrorists...Hmm what was past history is now starting to hit very closely...

Well, Timmy sure does look like Tenma, I'll say that much.

That smile, at the end of chapter 127, stinks of hidden intentions and future plot twists, I can't say I like very much this Timmy.

Still, I can find you another creepier Timmy :3
