they both are based on the novel The Kouga Ninja Scrolls by Futaro Yamada
Compared to the live action version, this ending was way better. But the live action version IMO has better presentation, with a former Kamen Rider as Gennosuke.
Now being serious, that ending was expected but i didn't like it very much... too many deaths for that ending? Not worth it. I want to gennosuke to go berserk xD
Now this is a story where the ending doesn't feel like it's there just for some needless drama!
There were many stories with same story before even shakespear's drama came up :/

For a tragedy. The end made sense and is definitely heartbreaking though extremely satisfying.
If the romance plot was dragged out more, like at the beginning before the treaty was broken, and if they showed more of them falling in love and such, I would have totally cried my eyes out at the end.
Plus, there's a cute romance thing going on.
I recommend this to all action/martial arts enthusiasts.
On the other hand......
