Don't forget that Nana can change banana to 'anything' (still looks like banana though) so I betting if was not just yuri sex on the moon with a banana (if you know what I mean XD)
If you ask me... there are 3 simple reasons... Though they are are wild massive guessing.
1 - The magazine in that Banana no Nana was serialized is too small, the type that couldnt provide the proper support.
2 - The author seems like the type that loses focus easily, from all the projects that he has credit the longest one that he got to work on, he isn´t doing the story...
3 - One Piece came first. Could be a stretch at first, but its pratically One Piece with Lolies...
A idiot hero, crazy determinator with a ridiculous yet badass fighting style... Nana if pratically Loli-Ruffy
A comically serious swordfighter that lost someone dear: Zoro that uses three swords and Budou that uses a broom sword...
A powerful kicker with a self-style technique: Sanji vs Ringo
Kagami Karen was a poor excuse of Portgas D Ace though...
and in the timeskip you still can see Nami (the vident girl with weather control), Brook (Ichigo, the funny undead [cheat user] dead girl), Robin/Franky (the dead eyes and the love for robots), and Usopp (the girl in the blacksuit running away)
adventurers = pirates down to the way of how the group is discrimated by the common people... Most of the adventurers behave themselves like the pirates in Mock Town
Einherjar = Marines (though the later have more class, I personnaly consider Yae Shinichi one of the reasons the manga got axed)
Telomere = Grand Line
Oz = One Piece

Funniest manga I've ever read, I simply can't understand how it got axed. I absolutely loved the character, the art, and the humor. I thought it had set up a really epic adventure.
Oh well, at least I got to read it.
I understand the disappointment about the rushed "wtf" type of ending, but I sincerely think it is much better to go over the top like this rather than just letting things fizzle out.
Okay, so the ending sort of... well really sort of sucked, but still - I'm glad to finally see the rest of the chapters here. This series started out so well and had so much potential and if nothing else stands as a fine example of a wasted opportunity.

ch13 is ridiculous. It probably can be stand-alone to the manga. It can even pass as a fanfic.
---Anyway, they wasted a good adventure story. With that ending, ch1-11 (even 12) almost feel meaningless.

Shoujo-Ai is technically a western term, and is used to describe less explicit girl x girl romance. If you use that term in Japan however people will look at you strange, because there it is used in a literal sense. Meaning "The love of young girls" e.g. Pedophilia, or lolicon. Yuri is western use is used to describe the opposite of Shoujo-Ai, which would be explicit girl x girl romance, or in other cases girl x girl sex. However in Japan Yuri is used to cover everything from girl who have a very close friendship (e.g Marimite) to girls in explicit romantic relationships.
