Incredibly mediocre

okay, so this page is full of spoilers. don't read comments before the manga, but be assured that the manga is good enough to raise this much discussion about the meaning of its end.

spoilers below. real ones.

_________________________________________________________

Looking back, I just realized that the the blond-haired man, has his hair slowly drawn black as the story progresses. I'm not sure what this means, or if the blond-haired man truly existed, but perhaps the blond-haired man represented the black-haired man's hopes and dreams and the gradual turning of his hair to black represented reality or his gradual realization of reality.

Spoiler

So in the end, they're the same person, huh?? I first got the hint when that little girl neighbor mentioned that the inhabitant of that certain room once goes out naked, rather that mentioning that there's two guys there.

That makes the end rather bittersweet. He loses a lot, his love, his heart, his springtime of youth... But back to chapter 1, he refuses to give up after that little madness episode and start seeking the Pro's advice. It all perfectly loops, with the 'final' point being the penultimate chapter, which hints that he still have a hope with a friend/master to show him the ropes.

After finished reading this manga, i can't help but to feel down and pained, with what's happening to the MC hits too close to home. But when re-reading with final chapter first and then the rest later, it gives the MC a glimmer of hope, that he have yet to lose the struggle. I might be childish, but this manga is cruelly beautiful.

As for Kai Shouko, she embodies the success that the protagonist always reached out for, thinking it was close by, yet acknowledging that it was unreachable, and the fact that she's not even a figment of his imagination really hits hard. I remember the black-haired man occasionally telling the blond-haired man that he believed in him, which, in my interpretation, was his way of saying that he believed in his hopes and dreams. There's also points whether or not the black-haired man is holding the blond-haired man back is brushed upon, which I believe is a way of saying that in reality he will never become anything more. He's failed to relate to the very people he's worked to appeal to in order to have success while ignoring all the connections he's ever made with reality.

I've also always wondered about why "I" was in quotations, but as I read on I begin to think the black-haired man was either a figment of the blond-haired man's imagination or that both were the same person. At the end, we see that he's discarded everything about him, and it seems he's gone into a state of psychosis, to the point where he's lost touch of his own identity. I believe the protagonist's nakedness embodies the protagonist's attempts to connect with others by showing everyone the world he wanted them to see, even though the world to be seen is one that they reject (and are disgusted with).

This manga truly captured what it means to obsess over one's own world while attempting to connect with others through it, neglecting the fact that the majority are living in reality. I sometimes wish for works to have satisfying conclusions that involve tying up loose ends, but this ending really satisfied this manga. The fact that not everything is answered and probably never will be for both us and the protagonist captures just how truly cruel reality is.

Damn... People really need to read this.

As an ametuer writer, what an inspiring story. I feel like quieting work right now and sit down to write. Bravo

Blah. Boo. Meh. Annoying. It's amazing that some folks can do a manga for 10+ years and some guys get 14 months... and they both end as unresolved as they began.

Wait, this is different. This is a case where the unresolved bits are what makes the core of the ending click. The author could've just had him win the contest in chapter 8, but saying success is secondary rings hollow once you've achieved it. To show the protagonist embracing his stupidity, it's absolutely essential that he's actually stupid.

Kinda depressing end... very well made story :_)

"nyouseph nyoustar"

lost my shit there

Heh, and this guy never stops to think that it's precisely because he's so one-dimensional that he failed as a novelists. How can his work ever touch the heart of other people if he's so adamant about shutting them out? Hell, the fact that his words ultimately failed to intrigue or convince his girlfriend of his life-choice pretty much proved his incompetence as a writer. If he can't ignite the passion in the person closest to him (who was practically desperate for any reason to give him a chance, to add), then he will never capture the hearts of strangers who read his books. It's made even worse that I can't take criticism nor get better from one. There's no drive in him to get better, but only the blindness to keep trying on doing the exact same thing.

His (ex-)girlfriend would probably write a better book than him. At least, she has  the experience of falling in love with a social recluse, the personality to actually care about him, and the spontaneity to think outside of the box.

Someone is serious ocean-level salty........

How do you not get this? All you need to know is in the title, he is:

Nothing but a naked idiot :D

wow I can't believe it couldn't end properly. There should really be a market for a manga like this. :(

But it did end properly, didn't it?

Did you expect this to be Bakuman or something? Winning award (or not) was never an end but a means.

Blah. Boo. Meh. Annoying. It's amazing that some folks can do a manga for 10+ years and some guys get 14 months... and they both end as unresolved as they began. At least this wasn't as irritating as a Rumiko Takahashi work.

So this is somewhat related to the author becuase we never knew the name of the MC and well the author of this manga is a LN writter, maybe it is not exactly what happened to him maybe only the failures at the start are the only similarities but i dont know about the backstory of the author so it could be or not.

Oh and the stories the Mc was saying in the chapter of the 578 yen are LNs that the author did XD.

uh... what.

So was MC the naked idiot or not?

If he isn't, where did naked idiot go?

Had funk roaring in my ears while reading through this whole damn crazy manga and as I read through just felt crazily impacted through his undying never give up will. To strip yourself of all this world's worries and like a crazy naked zombie, keep getting back up after everyone's knocked you down.

I stripped.

That was something special.
Put this one on your favorites tabs and come back to it when you can. Everything about this series was great, but the ending was enough to make me choke up for a minute.
This is the kind of story that needs to be remembered.

That. Was. Beautiful.

Rereading this will be a treat.

Now this is what you call well executed drama. I only wish that I could have read more about these characters.

I loved this and I really did wish it was a bit longer since I wanted to see where his journey would take him.

But I also understand why it ended there though, it was one of those bittersweet endings that conveys just how much he was willing to do to chase his dreams. It was less about him becoming a best selling novelist but the struggles and determination that came with chasing that aspiration.

In the end it might have been a tragedy or even a feel good story with a happy ending but this way it's left for the reader to imagine what may have happened it may look like the author was lazy or it got axed but I believe this ending has the most impact precisely because it's left open.

Spoiler

kind of weird how we never knew the MC's name or the naked guy's name

My heart hurts.

Yes... I waited months so that I could be cut short again ._.
Nice ending but it's a shame that there's only this much of a good manga.

Rating: 9/10. Effin' Brilliant!!

Ya, I just reread it quick. Pretty sure they are the same entity. Either way it is vague enough while still conveying it's message of hope and perseverance. 10/10 for such a short but well crafted story.
